so after 3 years, I feel like I've lost my layering / shadowing touch. I made this LO to practice both and was hoping some of you could take a look and give me any suggestions on how it could be better (shadows especially). I used to rock shadows and now I feel like a newbie again! I've been stingy with shadows, making them too small and light, like I'm scared to give stuff depth haha. So I tried to get them more obvious here....too much? Thank you in Advance, I really wanna get my shadow game back!
The alpha, flowers and photo frames look good to me, but the some of the seeds look like they're floating. I think it's a matter of personal preference though! p.s. edited to add ... I love how the grass shadows look!
Hi, I'm just starting with shadows, so you don't have to listen to me, but I like this link http://sahlinstudio.com/tutorial-how-to-create-realistic-shadows/ . If you Always rocked it, then I would think this good give you a start again and help you find your own style back. I wish you luck with it! Your page is beautiful even with the floating seeds ;-)
I think you are well on your way to being on top of your shadow game. I agree that the seed scatter is too high off the page. And your feathers, the shadowing is dark for such a lightweight object/element. Those are the only two things I see after really stopping to look . . . and just remember . . . most of your family is not going to pay attention to that . . . they just want to look at the photos and the story. The creative process is for you. That's my 2 cents.
And on a separate note, I remember your user name from back in the day . . . glad you are scrapping again!
I think it looks wonderful. I only noticed the seeds after Michelle mentioned them, lol! I am not one to give much else in the way of suggestions... only because I really think it's just preference for what pleases you. I tend to shadow on the lighter side, but that is my preference. When I printed an album previously, I thought they looked too dark, so I started lightening them. I also shadow paper layers with a regular shadow... and then add what I call the "OSS." (Opposite Side Shadow, lol!) This is toward the top right... cause no paper sits completely flat on the other side. Again, preferences. Your page looks wonderful that way you've scrapped it. What about if you scrapped the same page with less shadows and compared to the ones with deeper shadows. Then you might figure out what your preference is?
Erin... I think it looks wonderful, especially the seeds. Lol! I hope I got across what I meant. Here's a layout that is super simple... but you can see a little "glow" on the opposite side shadow... the white paper wouldn't sit perfectly white on the BG...
@jk703 yup that looks way better than just a one side shadow. What's your process? Do you create a shadow layer underneath or.....? My mind is blown. Such a simple thing that makes a HUGE difference!
I for one am so super happy to see you scrapping again! I actually had your whole gallery bookmarked at MyScrapbook Art! You're super creative and always had great AAM pages and really unique pages! <3 <3 I am absolutely not an expert. I am one of those people who doesn't care that much. EEP! I know others who spend hours and create such beautiful shadows but I just don't. :/ I start with Krista's shadowing styles and go from there. They need modified for me sometimes, but I really like them!
looks beautiful! The only thing I was going to suggest too was the feathers. Once again Shadows are personal what one person likes the next wont. @jk703 That is awesome!
@crystalbella77 wow! Thank you so much! Our house burned down 3 years ago. I lost most everything. So we spent a lot of time rebuilding, had a baby etc. Now that I finally have time and all that I'm so excited to be back.
I am so so sorry about your house! That is so sad and scary! I hope everyone was ok! Congratulations on the baby too. It sounds like it's been a huge time of adjustment and new beginnings for you. BIG HUGS! I'm glad you are back!
@crystalbella77 yup, everyone was fine thank goodness. I'm glad to be back too. Feels SO GOOD to get my creative on!!!!
I use the Outer Glow on my shadow layer. I did a tutorial for Forever Joy Designs, if you want images to follow along. I fuss with mine, and change the settings based on which element or what color (underneath) I have. http://www.foreverjoydesigns.com/2015/09/shadowing-outer-edges.html
Sounds like you have had your hand full, Erin! Rebuilding, baby and so much more, welcome back! I'm sorry about the fire, so devastating!@chickypow
