I just got a new camera :cheer. I'm not impressed with the strap. My Canon Rebel XS strap was a little wider, and felt much more secure than this new strap.

Do you use the strap that came with the camera? Or something else?

I have this one (it was very comfortable, easy to wash), but I have not used it in the past couple of years. I just never got around to putting it on my current camera. It's a cover and I decided to just buy this strap.

Congrats! What camera?
I just use a wrist strap but it's a phone, so…. not helpful, probably but I like hearing others' experiences.

I changed camera straps about a year ago. I went with the Joby cross body strap. I truly love it. BUT... here's why it works for me (you may have different needs). My main reason for looking at the Joby was because I wanted to simplify and ditch my camera bag when out for long periods of time. I can't wear my camera around my neck, so I was always carrying my bag and taking my camera in and out. For our trip to NYC last June, I wanted to carry JUST my camera (Canon 5d). The Joby strap allowed me to carry just my camera and my regular purse (also cross body). It was very freeing and I took a ton more photos because my camera was so accessible.

The downside is that the strap screws into the tripod mount. This means your camera will no longer be able to sit upright on a table. AND, if you want to use a tripod, you have to remove the strap. We only use the tripod about 3-4 times a year when trying to get a family photo, so it's not a huge deal to me. The not sitting upright is the one that bothers me the most, but the cross body style more than makes up for that for me. Oh... I did invest in the optional tether for added piece of mind. It's a safety net of sorts that keeps your camera attached to the strap incase it ever comes unscrewed from the mount (I've never had an issue, but I like having the extra insurance).

I switched to a Joby cross body strap last year too and I love it! I have it on my main camera. I also like that I can wear my camera on my bike when we are on vacation; I can't do that with a regular strap.

On my backup camera I use a long length Phat Strap; I've had two of them and they are comfortable, but I prefer the Joby now.

I got so used to my Nikon D40 strap, now we have the Cannon Sarita got before traveling in 2012...and I find it weird...but compensates the fact that the Cannon is a much lighter camera than Nikon...not sure it occurred to us to change? I may look into it!

Congrats on a new camera!!!!!

I dislike the Canon straps... too boring. I've purchased straps from Phat Straps for $37.95. But, the one I have now I bought on Amazon for like $3.50, and I've had it for years and has held up wonderfully.

I don't know if it's because I'm short, or curvaceous? But I've always worn my camera cross body with the Canon strap that came with it. No problems. I totally agree with everything you said about cross body! I loved it like that when we went to Disneyland, and I find I get more shots and better shots. This new strap cross body is thinner, and doesn't feel as secure as the old one did.

:compcoffeeWell, there's that too!

Thanks for sharing, @navaja77 . I have the BlackRapid cross body, but as others pointed out it uses the tripod mount. When out on a photoshoot where I am also lugging my tripod around, it is a hassle to take off the strap to use the tripod. I like that yours does not use the tripod mount.

I've never seen the cross body straps before but it looks like something that would work really well for me! I guess now I'm going to have to do some research on camera straps! I've just been using the one that came with my camera for years!

I also use the Black Rapid strap that attaches to the tripod mount, but I don't find it a hassle to put it on or remove it. I keep the strap with my monopod because most of the time I don't use a strap at all -- I just carry the camera in my hand and the strap was always getting caught on things -- and now only put it on when I think I will not be taking a lot of photos and want my hands free.

I have the Black Rapid cross body strap too. I sure don't miss that strap around my neck!

That's what I did with my older camera! I didn't actually realize you could replace the strap at first.

I just carry the camera in my hand and the strap was always getting caught on things -- and now only put it on when I think I will not be taking a lot of photos and want my hands free.
I used to always carry it in my hands. But then my kid started asking me to hold this or that, and I ran out of hands! And I refuse to hand the DSLR to him to take photos unless he has the strap around his neck!

Oh, I was going to add. I'm going to try out the OP/TECH Utility Sling Strap. I liked the Black Rapid, but I keep my camera on the table or kitchen counter most of the time, so a tripod mount will not work for me!

I like the price on this one. Let us know how you like it when you buy strap. It looks a lot more comfortable than the strap that came with my camera.
