Bread | Pad Patter 11.15

I used to love baking bread. I grew up with homemade bread and learnt all different kinds including savoury and sweet. Since discovering that I'm coeliac my love of baking has disappeared. GF bread options are so limited unless I use loads of additives, and less enjoyable to bake .
I’m glad you were able to enjoy it while you were growing up Angela.

Do you eat bread? I do, but definitely not daily. Maybe once a week I'll have a piece a toast or have it served with dinner.
Do you prefer white or wheat? They are both good!
Do you like sourdough? It's my favorite!
Have you ever made bread? What kind(s)? I have, but it's been years! I never feel like what I make comes close to what I can buy, so it lost its novelty for me.

I agree that white and wheat are both good.

Do you eat bread? yes, but not every day
Do you prefer white or wheat? neither . . . I now usually buy Ezekiel bread because the sprouted grains and seeds in it are nutritious and I think I digest them better . . . and I rarely make sandwiches . . . I use it for avocado toast or for spreading things like chickpea mash, and more often, I wrap up beans and veggies in flour tortillas
Do you like sourdough? I do. Occasionally I get a half loaf of Wegmans rosemary sourdough.
Have you ever made bread? What kind(s)? Long ago. Except for a boxed gluten free mix I was making circa 2019 for my middle child, and the gluten free rolls I make every Thanksgiving, the other bread I've made was so long ago I don't even remember exactly what it was. I still have the old bread maker I got for a wedding gift 28 years ago though; I wonder if it works anymore.

DH prefers Ezekiel bread in our house. That’s nice you got a bread machine for a wedding gift!

Do you eat bread? Oh yeah! Give me all the bread!
Do you prefer white or wheat? I guess I prefer white, but I'm not really picky.
Do you like sourdough? Yes!
Have you ever made bread? What kind(s)? We used to make homemade bread all the time and a kid, by hand and I loved kneading it and then watching it rise. Oh and it was SO good coming fresh out of the oven slathered in butter. mmmmm! I've made several different kinds. The most memorable was the orange break, which sounds so weird, but was really good. It was only slightly sweet and had grated orange rind in it, but was so good! I used to have a bread machine and would try different kinds all the time. I still prefer handmade though.

Do you eat bread?
Yes, I do.
Do you prefer white or wheat?
Dark whole wheat bread.
Do you like sourdough?
Yes, I do. Even my sourdough is whole wheat
Have you ever made bread? What kind(s)?
No, but my daughter used to. She has had bakery training for 3 years.

The orange break sounds interesting. I have made different varieties but prefer white because it goes with everything.

That’s cool your daughter has had bakery training. Your dark whole wheat bread sounds delicious. I prefer wheat.

Do you eat bread? I eat bread every day. The staff of life, and etc.
Do you prefer white or wheat? I prefer whole wheat for an everyday bread, but I also love a nice French or Italian white loaf as a treat.
Do you like sourdough? Love it!
Have you ever made bread? What kind(s)? I have made white, whole wheat, sourdough.

Do you eat bread? Yes!
Do you prefer white or wheat? White
Do you like sourdough? LOVE, my favorite!
Have you ever made bread? What kind(s)? Yes! When I was little my grandmother never bought bread, only made homemade and every time she made some she would have me make my own mini loaf with her. I have made regular white bread, Italian, banana, Amish friendship, Irish soda. Besides banana bread though, I haven't made homemade bread in a long time.

Do you eat bread? I do! I don't eat it much though. Trying to lose a little weight, so balance.
Do you prefer white or wheat? I like most breads, especially Rye.
Do you like sourdough? Sure, I'm not picky!
Have you ever made bread? What kind(s)? I've made some breads before. The most successful ones are the focaccia. I prefer when others make homeade bread. I have a baker for pies, cookies, and other baked goods, sometimes bread. Every time I visit my parents, I pass an Italian Deli that has the most amazing bread.

Great, now I want ALL THE BREAD! :giggle

oh lordy.. Bread is my downfall :)

I love a good brotchen or pretzel roll, but I will enjoy a great sour dough, rye or white bread for a wonderful sandwich :)

Hubby makes a lot of our breads here when we make them ourselves. Besides the Pizza Dough he makes, he also makes pitas, has made hamburger rolls/buns, and the like. Nothing like a good bread :)

I like to make Pumpkin bread too, around this time of year. I buy the Libby's Box mix which makes 2 loaves. I usually make them and cut them into halves and freeze all 3 halves while we enjoy one.

I also make a fantastic Irish Brown Bread that we eat with stews or when I am doing my Irish evening with Lamb Shanks :)

What I miss most out of not living in New York anymore, is the bakery with the REAL Italian Bread. I also remember walking out of the bakery with a fresh rye bread in the wax bag from the bakery and eating the heel of the loaf as we left the bakery. Here in VA Beach, all the bakeries are in the Grocery stores. It is so NOT the same :)

I love that you and your grandmother made bread together!

My hubby likes to make breads too. He made English muffins last week and they were amazing!

When we lived in Germany I loved grilled bratwurst on a brotchen roll slathered with mustard, then topped with sauerkraut. Yum!!! I've never seen brotchen here in Northern VA.

Bread is great :)

Do you eat bread? Not too often and when I do it has to be gluten free now
Do you prefer white or wheat? both
Do you like sourdough? yes my favorite
Have you ever made bread? What kind(s)? Yes - I only bake gluten free for the last 10+ years due to both daughter and my intolerance to gluten. I kept a sourdough starter (GF) for years - but lately have him dried to revive later since she's at school and not here to help eat the discard recipes or bread LOL. I've made all the quick breads, sweet rolls, sourdough, challah, and pizza dough. I still make pizza dough regularly - and bring it to my DD at college too since there are not really any great GF pizza options otherwise.
