Brand Name vs Store Brand | Pad Patter 10.21

Do you have an Aldi? Their tuna is very good.
Yes we have an aldi here.. I went once or twice.. not for any big shopping. I am really picky with tuna though. Thanks!!!

I do a lot of storebrand, but like you said there are just some things you can't skimp on. My kids dont even like the BLUE box macncheese- they are Annie's organic macncheese snobs! ;) I even buy 2 different kinds of name brand peanut butter because kids like smooth, hubby likes crunchy! :eyeroll I'm super particular on my coffee and baking supplies too!

I’m a mix of both really. Biggest surprise lately for me though was when my mum bought the store brand tomato relish and I actually found it better than the name brand so we’ve changed permanently and saved $2-3 a time. I’m very much name brand for ketchup and peanut butter and am very picky about fresh deli and bakery products - I’ll only buy from one grocery store

I probably buy at least 90% of the Meijer store brand products if there's one available. There haven't been many things that I've tried of theirs that don't taste just the same and are enough of a money savings that I'm willing to try. My Gain laundry soap is about the only thing that I think I'd still buy brand name, but they don't have a store brand equivalent, so I haven't had to make that decision yet. Lol. Oh and TMI... but feminine products. I buy brand name there. :giggle

I can't believe nobody has talked about TOILET PAPER!!!!! Brand name: Charmin or Cottonel. (there is one more brand that I'll get if there is neither of them but it's still a brand. LOL~~)

I'm brand loyal, and I consider store brands a brand as well. For example, we use only Kirkland tissues and paper towels, because I prefer them over other brands, and we use Meijer black olives because we think they taste better. On the other hand, I also prefer Tide laundry detergent and the platinum versions of Dawn and Cascade. We use Cottonelle for toilet paper and I'm planning to try out the Kirkland one, but every time I've been to Costco for toilet paper, Cottonelle has been on sale, so I just buy that.

I am very brand-aware and it does influence my purchases. There are some things where brand doesn't matter to me, but I will tend to stick with specific products that have made an impression on me.

I get Amazon Subscription deliveries for Cottenelle toilet paper, Viva paper towels, Tide detergent and Finish dishwaster tabs. We always get Hellman's mayo, Jif peanut butter and Heinz ketchup. For frozen veggies, I like Publix brand stuff a lot- their mashed cauliflower is great, as well as their mixed vegs for stir fry. I am also particular about Worchestershire sauce (has to be Lea and Perkins) and Teriyaki (Maui Mountain). I try store brands often at Publix, but when I order from Walmart (for pickup) I usually go for what I know the kids will eat. Mine are also pretty Kraft blue box (but the three-cheese with shell noodles) brand-loyal and won't eat my homemade mac-n-cheese happily. Lately, my husband and I have been on a different diet (Keto) from the kids, so I tend to make more options so they can have carbs while we don't.

After years of having to scrimp & save, I buy mostly store-brand groceries.... with two (big) exceptions.

My son is a real brand snob, and he can immediately tell the difference in taste between brands so the handful of items he eats are always name brand.

My husband is GF so there are certain store brands I have to buy e.g. Swanson broth because they are GF and store brand is not guaranteed to be.

I am also a super-taster like my son so if it's something I really like/enjoy, I will usually go store brand. Snacks I don't care about/that are for the kids -- ice cream, crackers, fruit snacks -- are whatever's cheapest but something I might eat is usually one particular (store) brand.
