My friend is building a house. She's debating on only having 1 tub out of 3 bathrooms. We were chatting about it since I said not having a bathtub in the kids bathroom was a deal breaker if I were buying the house. Our other friend said not having a bathtub in her bathroom was a deal breaker.
But, the first friend says her kids don't bathe, they shower. So, she actually is considered having no tubs.
Since it's National Bubble Bath Day, and I think I may celebrate by having a bath! I thought I'd ask y'all:

1) Does anyone in your house bathe? Or just showers only? Or both?
2) Does having a tub matter if you were buying a house?

Showers only here.

When I had young children a bath was important, but not anymore. I would say to your friend build for your own needs, not the needs of a potential buyer - after all she's the one living in it now.

Shower for getting clean - bath essential for relaxation! :)

I have 2 1/2 baths.. the master has a stall shower and a seperate garden tub. The additional bathrooom upstairs is a bath / shower combo and the downstairs is no bath or shower just sink and toilet.. I say the main bath should have both.. if there is only 1 bathroom in the house yes to the Bath/Shower combo.

We used the garden tub in the master here a bit (however I am a shower person), but in our previous house it was only a stall shower in the master and the Shower/bath in the Main bathroom... Also in my Dad's Florida house was a master stall shower and the main bathroom had the bath/shower in one.

If buying a house I would want one with the combo as you never know.. plus depending where you live, if there is hurricanes etc. and you have the potential to lose water, you can always fill up the bathtub for flushing etc. No bathtub you are stuck.. plus in Earthquake areas, a bathtub where you can pull a mattress over to keep you safe is a good idea too... plus one never knows when you just want to relax so I say yes to at least one bathtub in the house.

DH takes baths, DS and I do not. I just don't enjoy them at all. We did a lot of baths when the kids were little and now I do occasionally bathe the grandkids, so I'd want at least one tub in my house always.

Showers for us, even the dog....:giggle I actually don't really enjoy a bath. I'd rather snuggle under a blanket and read a book. I even hated bath time when my kids were small, lol!

We all take showers at my house. But, I don't really like the shower stall design that doesn't have a tub as well. There just isn't enough room in there! If I try to shave, all the shaving cream just runs right off. In our house now, we have 2.5 baths. One has no shower, the master only has a shower stall thing, and my daughter's bathroom is a shower/tub combo. I often just take a shower in her bathroom.

Only one bathroom in the house. Had a tub with a shower head. I'm a shower person and as I grew older I kept stubbing my toes on the tub when I would get in and out. I even fell a couple of times catching myself on the counter across from it (my bathroom is long and narrow). So when I did the remodel in 2017, I had a walk in shower put in and got rid of the tub. In 2.5 years I have only wanted a bath 3 maybe 4 times but I got over it.

I do have an entirely open basement again and have considered having a bathroom with a tub put in down there but haven't pulled the trigger on doing it yet.

I guess if I really want a bath, I could go to my cousin's just around the corner. In her 3 bathroom house, she has 1 tub. She is a shower person and wasn't going to put in a tub in her remodel but thought it wouldn't hurt. Her washer/dryer are right across from it so she uses it mostly to soak laundry things if needed.

I prefer showers and now that all my kids are teens, they do too. But I would still want one bathtub somewhere in the house. It's kind of a basic, useful thing that you may wish you had for various reasons at various times.

We had one potential contractor tell us to NOT put any bathtubs in our bathrooms because no one uses them anymore. HA! Ours gets daily use, and we don't have any kids. I prefer to shower, but the tub is used more than for just bathing: I use it to wash sweaters and quilts and such, as well as to soak sore muscles! And it has held water for emergencies for when the water went out. Obviously we didn't go with them.

The short story? I wouldn't buy a house if it didn't have at least one bathtub.

We all shower daily in our house, but my oldest occasionally likes to take a hot bath after a hard swim practice still. We also have a giant jacuzzi tub in our master bath that NEVER gets used. I can't just lay around in a bath... can't sit still long long doing nothing. Plus, I have to scrub the tub to my satisfaction before a bath and then it's just not worth it. :giggle I'm dreaming of ripping that massive tub out and putting in a lovely big stand up shower with a bench. :heartslub I would require at least one tub somewhere in the house if I had small children though.

We typically take showers, but will take an occassional bath on vacation (the timeshares have whirlpool/jet tubs). However, we do like bath tubs to shave or just quickly wash our hair/color hair. We all wear glasses, and we can't quite see in the shower to shave our legs (family of 5 girls, only 1 guy here). I would put in at least 1 tub, but I don't think every bathroom needs a tub!

1) Does anyone in your house bathe? Or just showers only? Or both?

We only take showers. I used to take soaking baths before my back got so bad. And of course when the kiddos were little, they took baths often. I have to have the tub freshly scoured/bleached before I can take a bath, so it's not really worth it. LOL

2) Does having a tub matter if you were buying a house? Yes, in Florida it's good to have a tub for water during hurricane season. I think I would always want at least one tub. Both of our bathrooms have the tub/shower combo. We are going to remodel our bathroom and have it be a walk-in shower with a seat. My left leg especially doesn't listen to my brain's commands when I tell it to "lift up, lift up for goodness sake!" and I've hit my toes/foot and almost fallen - we have rails and other safety measures until we can remodel.

We just built a new home last year. The master bath has a big shower and the second bath has a tub. It was an upcharge to add a shower to that bath, so we kept the tub. I don't know if I'll ever use the tub, but my daughter did when she visited last month. Every home that I have lived in has had at least one tub. I think they are hard to clean and even harder to get out of! lol!

I have to have a tub for myself! We all shower here but I also have fibromyalgia and will do Epsom soaks etc. Also, I am blind as a bat without my glasses so I can shave better in the tub vs the shower since I can wear them haha.

Also, like mentioned above the tub is useful for other purposes as well. So it is definitely a must have for me..

I only take showers. Our GS still takes baths, but we have 2 tubs in the house. He's 8 and is starting to prefer showers already.

We only shower but still have a clawfoot tub in the main bath. I told a friend that if we ever get around to remodeling that bath she can have the tub. It would have to go out the back window wall which is the way it came into the house, pushed up a ladder by my two sons in the period when the new windows were going in! That was over 25 years ago.

If this ever happens, I would not put another tub in. New buyers can do what they like...

When the kids were young then we did baths. Now we all shower. My daughter and DH like the occasional bath though

We have three bathrooms with two baths between them. The kids bath upstairs has probably been used less than 5 times in 6 years - the one in our bathroom is a therapeutic spa that gets used a few times a year - wonderful for when we do need it! I love showers, ours is like a big cave, no glass to clean but nice and big.

on a slightly different note, when we built our first house, we visited a number of builders to get affordable house plans and quotes. One builder had the only shower above a bath and we were trying to work out what else looked a bit odd - it took a surprisingly long time to work out he had forgot to include a toilet in the plan - we didn't go with him...:giggle
