My kids started today!

2nd. 5th. 9th. 11th.

Only a 1/2 day today but they are officially IN. And, as always, I have mixed emotions about it.

Pro: schedule. lack of boredom. more free time for mom. education (obviously). friendships.

Con: schedule. homework. early mornings. taxi service intensifies. clothing prep.

It's an inevitable part of life. Good and bad. I've never been super emotional about it as a mom (yet). Time for school!

Are you back in school? When do you/your kids start back? How are you feeling about it?

We started Monday. 1st, 3rd and 6th.

I'm with you - mixed feelings. I like the routine and the time to get things done during the day. But don't love the early mornings or the homework struggles!

My oldest started middle school and thankfully that has gone really well so far. I was prepared for tears - but none so far!! Just hoping she can keep herself organized it seems that a lot more of the responsibility for assignments, communicating with the teacher, etc is on her this year.

I hear you, Ashley. My most disorganized (ADD) child is starting high school. They really make it up to the student in HS, so this mom is a teeny bit nervous. Letting go. Letting go. :giggle

The grands started back today too, 3rd and 6th. Ditto on your list! Fall always seems extra crazy to me with lots going on!

Oh, boy. The memories suddenly come rushing back! We only have our baby left now (she's 18, LOL) and she is back into collage again this Fall after taking this whole year off. She graduated hs early then continued what she started with dual enrollment, then ... BAM! Hit a wall, haha, but not really funny. Poor thing. She was just overwhelmed all over again! I feel sorry for the pressure they take to pick a major - classify their studies. I am 48 and think I assume most of us or not doing what we went to college for. Work evolves so much!

I think I forgot the pressure of it all! I am not sure I could do it all again after having done it with 3. I envy all the sweet fun parts of school you get to all take part of and am sending out {hugs} for the days it just simply sux. ♥

My oldest started 0th on Monday, and she is ELATED to finally be a schoolkid. Logistically, for me, it is not that different from before. She was already going to the same building for the same amount of time and being with the same people, it's "just" that there is instruction now. Which is huge for her, of course, but that helps a lot with my transition. I know it's really different in the US, though. The little one is in preschool for one more year and *I* start grad school next month!

My youngest starts 5th grade this year. He goes back in about a week and a half. I am sure that I would be thrilled about the whole back to school thing if I wasn't a teacher LOL. But there are parts of me that are ok with it. I do kind of like the routine of it all, but I don't so much like the rushed evenings.

Ugh. I still have a couple weeks. We start the 9th, which is actually late this year for around here by a week. I've got a 2nd grader and a 5th grader. Holy moly... they and I are getting old!

I like the routine, except for getting up early. I dread homework. It takes us forever, hours and hours and it's so much.

Last year was the first year that actually had many bumps but went smoothly at the same time. My oldest has ADHD, and after testing/IEP/all systems go, 4th grade was the first year with the Special Ed teacher within his classrooms. It was absolutely wonderful compared to 3rd grade, and made a huge difference. He now is excited about school, has confidence, and doesn't believe he is dumb. Last year was a 360 turnaround. We were also lucky to have 3 great teachers. (They switch classes, and have 1/2 subjects with one teacher and 1/2 with the other.)

I have hope for 5th grade... but not looking forward to homework, lol!

Compared to my layout from a couple years ago... it's way better.

My daughter starts 8th grade on 8/27 and my son starts 10th grade on 9/8 (the joys of having one in private school and one in public).

I'm ready to be back to a routine and the kids are ready to be back with their friends. However, the one thing I don't like about the school year is how fast it flies by! This year will go especially fast with my daughter being in 8th, since we'll have all of the graduation stuff, plus all of the high school testing and applications (here in Chicago we have to apply to even the public schools). Once school starts, I blink and it's Christmas, then blink again and it's June!

My kids started today. I always grieve a bit on the first day of school because a) I miss them and b) the whole eeek-they-are-growing-up but today was especially bittersweet. My oldest is a senior, so it was her very last first day of school. My husband was like...I don't think she's going to let you come to college next year and take pics of her with your chalkboard on the first day. LOL *sniff*

LOL, Laura to what your husband said. Consider yourself lucky that you can still take pics of her like that now!!! There's no way my kids would let me do that even as young teens, just starting HS!!!

I'm almost same as Jenn ... mine go back Sept 8th which is late by about a week. Both are now in High School .... ack! How did that happen? My son is going into 10th and my daughter is going into 9th!!!

I'm not ready for school to start at all. :cry They will be chasing down the bus at like 6:20ish in the morning ... too early!!! And all the homework! yuck. We are enjoying the lack of schedule and relaxed pace too much! We have some major adjustments to make to get ready for those early mornings because we've all been night owls this summer. Plus, it's been a bit sad this summer bc my daughter is supposed to be enjoying practicing with the HS soccer team in prep for 1st year of HS fall soccer, but she has a condition in her knees that is keeping her from playing. :thumbsdowns

My kids aren't in school yet, but Monday was Kaydee's first day "in the big kids' room" at day care (potty trained 3 year olds....). She has been excited about it since mid summer. So far, she has come home every day with stories about what is different in her new class vs the old one.

I have hope school will be equally exciting, and a great deal less stressful with transitioning in a couple years when she starts K.

My boys go back a week earlier this year than normal. They go to private school, so we don't have to follow the same schedule as public school. In Michigan they passed a law that school has to start after labor day (for tourism income) but since that is so late this year, our school decided to start a week early, but they didn't tell us until after last school year ended... so like mid-June. We already had plans for a fun end of summer backpacking trip that week and had already made reservations, so my boys will go to school for their first 1/2 day and then we are leaving for the rest of the week. Oops! Guess they should have planned ahead a little more.

Anyway, they start August 31st and are going into 4th and 6th grades. I'm not actually looking forward to it. Our summers are so much more relaxed and fun and free. I have to be at work at 6:30 during the school year and always have a little trouble getting back into that schedule. Plus... the sports start right away and we'll be running around like crazy people again.

We homeschool and have for the last 2 years, since our oldest started Kindy. This year I'll have one in 2nd Grade and one in K. We will start next Monday, the 24th. It will be my first year teaching 2 grades at once. They have both gone to pre-school for 2 years before homeschooling to give them an idea of what school should look like. I'm sure it will be an adventure! I've been up late doing lesson plans for the last 3 nights...trying to get at least 8-10 weeks ahead. I love being here with them and being able to tailor their education to them! We participate in a program called Classical Conversations and from the age of 4 they have been learning History, Math, Science, English, Latin, Geography, a Timeline of the World from Creation to present and they already know all States and Capitals and the US Presidents! We do lots of outdoor, hands-on learning, field trips and reading! We just took the last 2 months off from everything but Reading while we moved and traveled and visited family. We use everyday opportunities to teach and learn. I love that I'm learning all over again right along side them! Although I will miss the slower pace of summer without sports and crazy schedules, I'm looking forward to all the exciting learning this year!

.... so glad my daughters are grown and handling all this with their own children and it's NOT ME ANYMORE!!!!!

My youngest will start his senior year of college on the 25th. He's not EVEN HOME yet, still in New Mexico. He is counting down the days until his last at work so he can head home next Tuesday. I think he's even looking forward to going to school again ;)

In France, children start September 1st. And this year, my two children go to school. I don't the equivalence with your school systeme. My oldest is 6 years and will joint the CP (Cours Preparatoire) and my youngest, my baby, will join the "petite section", he's soon 3 years and it's his first school year. I'm excited like my children. And me, I will return in my high school on august 31st (always teach for 17 and 18 students). But I'm not excited about that, I prefer stay at home.

My son will be moving away for his first year of college on Sept.5 (let go mom, let go) and he begins classes on the 8th. I work in a high school and will be back on the 8th also.

The year round schools in my area were back in mid July. I'd live my kids to be in a year round school if we're still here in AZ when they are old enough to be outside playing by themselves. It's too hot here for summer. ..

Hugs, Jaye!!!! I can't imagine since my are still little... but it must be so hard!
