Back then...

I would have loved to live in Stockholm in late 18th century, when Gustav III was king of Sweden. He is such an intriguing figure. Did lots for changing Sweden, and lots for the culture. If looking at my genealogy research, I was most likely to be a house servant, but judging by our work now, me and hubby would have a library. I would dress in lovely dresses (think Marie Antoinette) and go to parties all the time. :giggle

So fun! My oldest daughter would love this! And I imagine your parties would have been divine! :)

I probably would have been a teacher in a one room school house.

Lisa @ArmyGrl I loved reading yours and your probably being a witch :) (Have you seen/read Outlander ? )

I homeschool my youngest daughter, but have a lot of respect for those who have multiple children of different ages that they teach at the same time! TV makes it look a lot easier than it probably was! But I'm sure you could have made it work! :)

I don't really have a favourite period of history.
Looking at my family past I would probably be one of the traveling boat people. Or with my faith - a nun.

I love traveling, so that would be fun! And I loved how fun and sneaky the nuns were in The Sound of Music!

I don't have a favorite time in history, but I stay home with my kids now and imagine I would have done the same then.

Same! But our lives would be so much harder! I definitely have respect for those who have come before us, paving this path!

Mmm my husband always kids I'd make a darn good hippie.. I like going a bare foot.. wearing long braids.. flowly dresses.. dancing in the moon light.. floating in the middle of the lake..

I totally could be a hippie driving a big bus around..protesting...celebrating free love...lol

That's fun! I wouldn't be protesting, but driving a van or big bus (Camper) around would be fun!

I have to agree with Lisa @ArmyGrl and Trina @tjscraps I don't think I'd want to go to far back in reality because my career wouldn't even exist. I do Mechanical CAD (Computer Aided Design) currently. But if I can get into the spirit of this and pretend that as I woman I could do something remotely similar, I'd go back to medieval times and help construct cathedrals I think. I could draw the blueprints and help with the designs! That would be so cool!

Construct or design cathedrals would be a really neat job! Would you make them as ornate as they are now? I would design castles with secret rooms or hidden passageways (that would be helpful if there was ever an attack).

I would either live in Wyoming where women have held the right to vote since 1870 or be in trouble because I was helping with the underground railroad and freeing slaves.

If I went back too far, I'd be burned as a witch. Because I'm not good at keeping my mouth shut.

@dotcomkari I couldn't go back to the 1970's - I would totally be a serial killer's victim or in a cult like Manson's. I hear about how many of them are charming and picking up hitchhiker's - yep. I'd be the hippie on the missing posters. :giggle

I reckon I would be a homesteader. growing stuff, looking after animals and cooking.

Same!

And same! Although I've always said that I enjoy teaching my own children...but not others...LOL! I do tutor a GREAT class of 7th/8th graders that I love.

My favourite time period is what many British historians call ‘the long eighteenth century’: from about 1660 (the restoration of Charles II to the throne of England) to about 1815 (the Battle of Waterloo). So many great authors, novelists, philosophers during that period, from Francis Hutcheson and David Hume to Frances Burney and Jane Austen.

But would I want to go back in time to actually live during that time period? O my goodness, no! I’m pretty much addicted to the comforts of modern life (indoor plumbing, central heating, 24/7 internet access), and anyway, back then I would have been the daughter of an impoverished Irish tenant farmer: I wouldn’t have been reading Jane Austen, because I wouldn’t have known how to read at all!...

I've always thought Jane Austen's time might be neat...if I was upper class. LOL!

So, I guess I would have been a witch. Because my interests have been plants, herbs, medicines, health, science, and labs. My social-economic upbringing would not have allowed me to go to school (humble upbringings). So, yes. My love of science probably would have earned me the title of witch.
this totally made me smile, realism and all, but if i had to choose btwn witch and subserviant, unentitled to an education maid, i think you're on the right track - i think i'd rather be Maleficent if you've seen her back story movie than a Cinderella type, even with a slight chance of a random ball and prince.

:compcoffee i'm so loving this thread - i can just picture you in a missing poster with a daisy chain head band.

I would like to go back to the 1940's, after the war or early 1950's. My faith, my attitude about family, and my joy about being a stay-at-home Mom would make me feel right at home. I love the music, the fashion, the entertainment - and I think I'd be perfectly at home and happy.
