Think of your favorite time period in History. Now what would your occupation or job be "way back then".

My favorite time period is Old West (think Little House on the Prarie). My husband works in the shipping industry, so back then, he could have been a Pony Express rider! :) One of my daughter's is studying Social Work, she could have run the local orphanage.

If your job is a receptionist, you could have been the switchboard operator. If you work in sales, you could have run the General Merchantile. If you are a builder or architect, you could work at the mill.

So, what is your favorite time in history? Do you like Medieval Times, Roaring 20's, 60's or 70's? What could your job be in regards to that time period?
 
Oh man- pretty sure Dentistry anytime before the most recent decades was not a fun profession to be in! Lol! I love the 20's but if I was a dental hygienist, which I'm not even sure existed then, it'd mostly be giving people lots of booze & other made up tinctures! :giggle
 
I would have loved to live in Stockholm in late 18th century, when Gustav III was king of Sweden. He is such an intriguing figure. Did lots for changing Sweden, and lots for the culture. If looking at my genealogy research, I was most likely to be a house servant, but judging by our work now, me and hubby would have a library. I would dress in lovely dresses (think Marie Antoinette) and go to parties all the time. :giggle
 
I'm gonna be the realist that says back then, Women were not allowed to have careers or professions. And when they tried, they were not taken as seriously as men, not respected, and not paid as much. It was difficult for women to go to college to further their education.

In the USA, there were two waves of Women's Rights Movements: Suffrage, led by leaders such as Elizabeth Cady Staton and Susan B. Anthony resulted in the 19th Amendment to US Constitution (ratified in 1920).

And a second wave focused on equality in the 1960's - 70's. And as I write this, I realize I do not have names and faces to go with this movement. Back to the history books for me!

So, I guess I would have been a witch. Because my interests have been plants, herbs, medicines, health, science, and labs. My social-economic upbringing would not have allowed me to go to school (humble upbringings). So, yes. My love of science probably would have earned me the title of witch.

I probably would have been a teacher in a one room school house.

Lisa @ArmyGrl I loved reading yours and your probably being a witch :) (Have you seen/read Outlander ? )
 
@cfile The hubby and I watched Outlander. We both LOVED it! If I were to go back in time knowing what I know now, I think it would be very cool to be a Claire.
 
I don't really have a favourite period of history.
Looking at my family past I would probably be one of the traveling boat people. Or with my faith - a nun.

Agree.. I always see rocks and my hubby always tells me not to touch them LOL I am re watching it all again - almost done with season 1... I figure with season 7 coming this summer I wanted to refresh LOL.. I need to re read all the books too.. I even have the Lord John ones :) I can see you as Claire :)
 
I don't have a favorite time in history, but I stay home with my kids now and imagine I would have done the same then.
 
I wouldn't want to go back in time. The current era still isn't progressive enough for me. But I loved my two decades being full time mom and now I'm teaching, so those easily translate into what I'd likely be doing at any time in the past. Life would have been much more difficult and restrictive though.
 
I’d either be a maid or a stay at home mom. It wasn’t that long ago that secretaries were male.

My great-aunt was born in 1898, she once told me that she went to college to get her “MRS” … and yes, she achieved that goal … met her future DH, they married and had a long and happy marriage. No kids, but they helped raise my father and served as a third set of grandparents to my sisters and I.
 
Mmm my husband always kids I'd make a darn good hippie.. I like going a bare foot.. wearing long braids.. flowly dresses.. dancing in the moon light.. floating in the middle of the lake..

I totally could be a hippie driving a big bus around..protesting...celebrating free love...lol
 
My favourite time period is what many British historians call ‘the long eighteenth century’: from about 1660 (the restoration of Charles II to the throne of England) to about 1815 (the Battle of Waterloo). So many great authors, novelists, philosophers during that period, from Francis Hutcheson and David Hume to Frances Burney and Jane Austen.

But would I want to go back in time to actually live during that time period? O my goodness, no! I’m pretty much addicted to the comforts of modern life (indoor plumbing, central heating, 24/7 internet access), and anyway, back then I would have been the daughter of an impoverished Irish tenant farmer: I wouldn’t have been reading Jane Austen, because I wouldn’t have known how to read at all!...
 
I have to agree with Lisa @ArmyGrl and Trina @tjscraps I don't think I'd want to go to far back in reality because my career wouldn't even exist. I do Mechanical CAD (Computer Aided Design) currently. But if I can get into the spirit of this and pretend that as I woman I could do something remotely similar, I'd go back to medieval times and help construct cathedrals I think. I could draw the blueprints and help with the designs! That would be so cool!
 
Women's rights still haven't come far enough in these days, so going back in time would be a hard choice. I have to say, being a time traveler like Claire in Outlander or a (white) witch (as long as I don't get burned at the stake) would be my best choices. I'd be a healer.

Same here! But they had it 110% harder than we do now! I do NOT have a green thumb, so growing my own foods and finding herbs would have been awful. I also do not do a lot of cooking from scratch, so it would have taken me even longer!
