OK, Michaels shoppers...who else had a store that was impacted by the security breach? All 3 of the ones I frequent are on the naughty store list posted on their website.

After the Target breach last year, I've gotten kind of skittish about my debit card. Now, with the latest from Michaels, I think I might just switch to all cash! It seems like it's almost impossible to keep up with these high-tech thieves.

Phew! I shopped at a few stores on the list, but it was prior to the breach. Cash is nice - no worries about data stealing, just someone stealing your wallet.

We had our card number stolen at a gas station while we were on vacation years ago, and again last year (not the target thing). It was pretty painless to get it fixed, more obnoxious than anything.

On the bright side, between Sony, target, our student loan company, and our old Healthcare plan, we have lots of free credit monitoring.....

I don't go to target very much but when I do, I now pay in cash...and i'm not a cash carrying kinda girl, I usually pay for everything by credit because I earn $$$$$ back. I'm just not comfortable with target anymore. Now I have to go check the Michaels list, not that I go there much anymore.

Ugh - I've shopped at both! My store is on the list. I htink I've already gotten a new card because of the target breach, so I'm *thinking* I should be okay because the Micheal's breach was the around the same time. ugh.

Sigh. The Michaels we go to is on there too. We keep a pretty close eye on our credit cards (don't use debit cards) and haven't noticed any problems, but I suppose we should get a credit report.

I had to check my transactions in QuickBooks when I first saw the news and astonishingly enough I shopped at Hobby Lobby and JoAnn during the scary window, but didn't spend a penny at Michaels. And Michaels is where I typically go because I use the 6x8 albums and I can only get them at Michaels. So ... I lucked out, I guess!

But I almost always use my business debit card when I shop at Michaels, so at the very least if they had to issue me a new one I wouldn't be in a lurch like I was with the Target security breach, which was our personal debit card. I always hate that because then I have to change all the automatic payments associated with my old debit card number and it feels like months later I still get a few "your credit card was denied" notices from services I forgot about.

Oh I had not seen a store list like that....my Michael's is on there, I will have to go through our Quicken to see if I shopped there during those dates. I hate that store, but it's very convenient and sometimes have to buy stuff for school there.

scary. Thanks for the heads up. I guess I will have to check, too, because all the stores in my area are on there. And I shopped at them all during that time, I am sure. I just can't remember the details. ACK!

Ugh, mine is on the list. I don't shop there much because it is an hour away. We typically use cash but around Christmas we spend more and use our debit/credit more. I know we haven't had any transactions go through but i guess I need to check and see if we need to replace our cards. Seriously why can't people get a life, quit hacking, and be kind to others?! That would solve oh so many problems!

ugh, not again. Thanks for the store list! I will check. Yup, on the list, better check my transactions. Already changed cards after the Target thing.

Mine is on that list... but the dates are May-July of 2013. I can't remember if I shopped there or not during that window. Off to check out the past transaction history with my bank, I guess.

Drat. I just checked and my store is on there and I did shop there during the span they listed. Hmph. I don't wanna go back to cash purchases. Hopefully if I get hacked, my credit card company will back me.

Yuck! My store is there also :(. I am SO thankful for USAA. They are so diligent at watching these things. When the Target thing happened they were all over it. But still. Stupid smart thieves!

Wow! That's crazy! I'm not sure if this affects Canadian stores though... does it?

The link in Laura's original post has a list of all the stores affected and the dates affected too... but they are all in the US, so maybe Canada is okay?

Ugh! Since the Target breach, my bank has sent me at least 2 or 3 new debit cards because of security breaches. I called to confirm but they never gave me names of the companies. These hackers need to find something better to do with their time.

What if your store is on Michael's list? Does it mean your information has been stolen? If so, is there anything a person can do?

I looked into it and couldn't find anything about Canadian stores...

yeah... our card number was used and quickly shut down by our bank, back in February... I'm assuming it was either Target or Michaels... I'm not worried though. I know the banks were totally on top of this when both Michaels and Target announced earlier this year. The thing is, it can happen anywhere, not just Target or Michaels so I just keep using our cards and checking our statements every month to make sure nothing crazy is going on... tho, this was the second time our CC # was stolen... and I've been really happy with how on top of it the banks are at shutting it down and calling us whenever there is suspicious activity on our cards... Tho, a total pain in the butt when we forget to call them to tell them we're on vacation or when we moved to our house and had to buy all new appliances and got declined at the grocery store LOL
