Let's take a breather from the holidays and think about the end of the school semester. Yikes! So...I was helping my son with some wording an essay and he asked my why I always hit the space bar twice. OMG...I can't NOT hit it twice. I'm a total Double Spacer! Apparently single spaces are the in thing now?

Single-spacer here. I read somewhere that it's a font vs. typewriter thing, like fonts handle the spacing more legibly so the extra space isn't needed, but somewhere else said that's a myth, so who knows. But apparently pretty much all of the style guides say single space now. I saw a scrap-related article ages ago illustrating how much more visually pleasing it was in blocks of text to have the single space vs. the gaps created by the double spaces and that's all it took for me to switch. :-)

Double space looks wrong to me now. DH has me proofread stuff for him and he's a double-spacer. It drives me bananas. If it's a long thing he's having me check, the first thing I do is go in and do a find and replace on all of the double spaces! :lol

I used to be a Double Spacer. I switched. I now think double spacing looks funny!

It took a while to adapt, but single-spacer now. I learned on a typewriter (yep, back in the day) and it was definitely double space after a full stop. I don't use the ":" too often, but I do tend to still double-space after that one.

I am definitely a double-spacer. I don't think I could change after all these years of that being the "proper" way. And yes, I learned on a typewriter first, but even when we had typing on the computer in school, we got marked down if we didn't double space. Lol! I know I've read that single spacing is now proper... but old dog, new tricks and all. :giggle

Double spacer for life.

Since I was taught that way and earned a degree in Business Education, it was drilled in to me to double space after a period at the end of the sentence. A single space looks funny to me but I will admit there are times I do it. Cringe when I do though.

I learned in 8th grade typing class in 1984 to double space and did it faithfully thereafter . . . until sometime in the last decade, maybe even the last 5 years. I can't remember. It wasn't a hard change for me.

What I'm working on now is being more casual in my texting. I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm mad at them because I wrote in complete sentences with periods. :lol2

I've learned to be a single spacer. I totally learned that double spacing was the right way back in the day. Times change. LOL!

I'm solidly in the category of "transitioning" :lol Up until a couple of years ago, I was an exclusive double spacer. I'm trying to break the habit. I'm probably 80% single space now. If I accidentally double-space, I won't go back and correct it.

I’m definitely a double spacer having learned on a manual typewriter back in the day. I agree that single-spacing looks nicer but I think double spacing is a lot easier to read.

Having just responded, looking at the gap after the period after day above, it looks like a single space and I typed a double. Maybe the iPad has decided the spacing issue for me.

I learned on a typewriter (yep, back in the day)
Um, I learned on a typewriter, and I refuse to say it was "back in the day". I know the 80's was awhile ago, but not that long, right?!?!?

I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm mad at them because I wrote in complete sentences with periods.
Wait, is this a thing?!?! Crap. I use sentences a lot complete with punctuation.
