Any cross-stitchers/needlepointers out there...?

@cfile That's the best crossstitch project I've ever seen! Genius! It's beautiful and it's functional!

I dabbled in a bit of crossstitch yrs ago but gave it up (along with knitting/crocheting) once I got into stamping and scrapbooking. I think I still have my two small sets of drawers with all my threads somewhere in the basement. I got rid of most of my crossstitch pattern books years ago. I don't think I'll ever go back to it. Just not enough time.

@cfile Wow, that looks really great. Putting it under glass is clever. Pity, you have never played on it (yet)!

I don't have any close-up photos - hmmm there is a DYD photo or two. I wish I had considered which way they were pointing when I made them as this makes for an awkward arrangement. They are also different sizes.

Beautiful Bev! I want to get back into it.. I have made tons of things and given away alot as gifts. I still have all my books and supplies. I am still hoping one day.. It is because of cross stitching and that I had trouble with it, that I took up scrapbooking!

Funny this topic comes up now! I learned how to cross stitch from my mom as a child. And I kept up with it for a while, even stitching gifts for friends that married or had kids. Once I had my son, it wasn't an activity I could keep up with (even all those years of practice and I was STILL a slow stitcher).
Only a few weeks ago, a small project caught my eye and I've almost finished it, working just a little each afternoon in the school pickup line.
My mom is still an avid cross stitcher - she makes her own Christmas cards every year!

I learned how to cross-stitch when I was young, and I was really into it all the way through high school. I actually used to take a project to school with me and would sit in the back of class and work on it when I was bored or finished with my other classwork. Yeah, it was a weird thing to do in school, but I like being weird. :) I did several really complex Cupid projects and entered them in the state Latin club competitions over the years, so at least my Latin teacher forgave me for sewing in class! :giggle

I started scrapbooking when I went to college, so that kind of took over the time that I used to spend cross-stitching, but I still have all of my stuff and wouldn't mind getting back into it.

I LOVE to cross stitch! I am about 70% done with the Ariel pattern from Donastitch (who makes beautiful fairytale patterns).

I also like Cloudsfactory and have done the Star Wars Alphabet, a Clone Wars piece, and the Disney alphabet... it seems my scrapbooking and cross stitch follow a similar theme!

Oooh, those Star Wars pieces are awesome! Thanks so much for sharing those- I'm going to have to see what else they have available!

I also have made many projects, and un-completed project LOL but have not done any in years! Don't know if my eyes could keep up!?
@cfile
Amazing!!!

I used to cross stitch a lot when I was in college and the years after that. Then I started making stamped cards and that took all my time and then I discovered digital scrapbooking and well... 11 years later, I'm still obsessed with that instead! :) I'm pretty sure my eyesight isn't what it was then either... not sure I could see those tiny holes anymore.

Amazing!!!
Thank you!! I hear that Barbara... It has been many years for me due to eye sight and hand cramping but I really loved it and want to do it again. I am thinking I need one of those magnifier lamp thingies and I might be ok.. I have one unfinished project that I tried again in 2012 to work on but nope and I haven't touched it since. I really need to try. Everything else I gave away except a few things.. a great gift is to monogram a gorgeous robe.. Use the cloth that you tear away (can't remember name of it) and it comes out beautifu.. You have a newborn Grandaughter now.. maybe do her birth announcement :) I did one when my friend's niece was born.. gosh 24 years ago now..

@cfile, that stocking is absolutely gorgeous!

There was a cross stitching magazine here in Australia that I used to get every two months...I made a few pieces I was quite happy with, including a Sturt's Desert Pea and a sampler of "I love a sunburnt country". I kinda feel like digging through my old craft tub to see if there's something in there I can start over the weekend now!

:) Thank you... yes the 2 stockings were from a magazine.. I have al the editions for all of the stockings as there were more too and then they came out with a book that I believe I bought. Got a lot of magazines. I have kept them all... Hope you find your magazine and can start back cross stitching :)

Cross stitching is my second love right after scrapbooking. I especially enjoy it during the winter months. I am currently working on the Angel of Autumn from the Lavender and Lace series. I hope to complete the whole set, although it will probably take my lifetime as I don't get as much time to do it as I would like. I am ok with that though. It's the way I relax and so I just try to enjoy the process no matter how long it takes.

I was a massive counted cross stitcher until I got into scrapbooking. Now, I just dabble. I've had a project stitching on Irish linen (which is a special kind of hell because you're counting over/under threads to go through vs holes in the fabric). I'll break out the piece periodically to work on. Someday I'll finish it (if I don't go blind first...lol).

Well, I totally want to start this hobby now!
All those examples are AMAZING in this thread. I've recently also seen other awesome patterns. But I don't cross stitch. So I've been kinda feeling like I should. It also very much feels like a winter hobby. And with winter coming....
