i and my mum and grandma have been using Norton/Symantec for years...now I have no complaints about it but I am wondering if there is a better/cheaper way of doing things. Under normal circumstances I would stay with the status quo and would just go out and get the next version but the renewal has snuck up on me and money is tight so I’m considering other options. Main thing is I need it to be as easy to use as possible (not so much for me but for the others as they are not tech savvy at all so I frequently have to either visit them to fix issues or explain again and again how to do something). We are all on Windows 10 machines which makes life a bit easier.

I used Avast (free) for years and never had any issues, just occasional annoying ads trying to get you to upgrade. When I redid DD's laptop a while back, reformatting and converting it from Windows 7 to Windows 10, I did a bit of research and found articles that said the built-in anti-virus in Windows 10 is just as good, so I just left it with that. I also have been using only the built-in anti-virus on my own PC since I had to reinstall Windows this past spring, and also on DS's desktop after we converted it to Windows 10 about a month ago. So far, so good. {knock on wood}

I have used Avast Free Antivirus for a long as I can remember. I've never had an issue with it. They do have premium features that you can pay for but I have never done it.

I installed it, quick set up and ignore it. It does its job.

Thanks @KimJ and @HavaDrPepper

I did think of at least one advantage of sticking with what I know....I can renew at my end and all three laptops will be done in one go without me having to go anywhere (my grandma lives 2 hours by commuter train/bus away). I just have an issue paying over $100 upfront because years past there’s been cashback offers which has brought the price down to around $60 and split between 3 it’s not bad.

If I'm not mistaken, Webroot is $60 and covers 3 computers. It's been easy for me to use.

Have you looked into using Windows Defender which is built into Windows 10? That will cost you nothing.
