Another PL question - continuity

Question for you ladies not using the core kits - are you keeping everything the same throughout your album? Using the papers, journal cards, fonts, photo shapes, etc?

I'm a little overwhelmed at the thought of picking one style right now, for the whole year. I think I'll start with one and if I want to change it up I will, but at the same time that makes me a little twitchy. I want it to look so purty.

Even the background paper is giving me fits. I should probably have a drink while working on my first week to get me over the hump!

Last year my album was all sorts of different styles and pocket sizes and while I'm really happy with the way it looks I've yet to finish a complete month (and have four I haven't even started). There were just too many decisions for me, so this year I'm doing all 4x6 pockets, creating them digitally and then printing them off to slide in the pockets. I'm hoping to go back to a more eclectic layout in 2014 but for now I needed to keep this year simple with few decisions because I really want to finish last years as well. I think overall I'm going to be happier with the look of last years album, but there's something to be said for making sure you do what you can to finish the project as well. It may be easier to plan if you can stick with one layout and maybe add some inserts here and there for interest? I love the idea of using A and D so that there are both horizontal and vertical spots on each spread, and am really seriously considering that for next year.

I am keeping the same neutral background paper for each week layout but I am using different journal cards for each week. There are just too many cute options out there to stick with 1 theme through the whole year, for me anyway. I am using about 4 different fonts and I am going to stick with just those because if I were doing it all paper style I wouldn't have a million different fonts throughout.

ETA: I forgot. I am using the same Week Cards, date tags, and numbers throughout because I do want it to flow nicely and have some sense of "togetherness."

Thanks Amanda! That makes me feel better. I've seen so many cute journaling cards and I picked up Valorie's card templates as well, so I'm going to be making some of my own. I couldn't decide on one kit/paper kit to use so I think I'll be mixing it up as well.

I'm using Valorie's pockets throughout and I will switch which one I use depending on the week. I'm going all digi so I'm not using any of the kit layouts or inserts out there.

^^ that is me. There is absolutely NO way I could use one style or one kit for a whole year lol! I get bored too fast.

I don't have all my pages here but you can see them side by side in my flickr

As you can see I just worry about each spread matching. The only thing I have for continuity is that I use black stitching on every page. Aside from that I'm pretty much letting myself do whatever. In the end I'll be happier that way. I've printed out several pages already to put in my album and it doesn't bother me at all that they don't all match.

Like Sarah said, do whatever you have to do to make sure you finish it. If it means changing it up, then change it up. Having an eclectic, non-matchy album is better than no album at all lol! 20 years from now it won't make you twitchy, you'll just be glad you have it!

Love that, Michelle! Thanks for sharing. they look great and you are totally right - I'm not going to care later on if the pages match. I'm going to keep the pockets throughout for continuity and change it up as I see fit. I've already told myself I could do 1 page or 2 pages or more if necessary, per week - some weeks are just going to be fuller than others (more full??).

I don't want to restrict myself out of having fun with it.

yea just have fun with it. It will look cohesive because of the style anyway. I am not going to stress over this!

This is how I was feeling too, Tali!!

I did end up just picking Emily's weekly journaling cards, and big numbers for the weeks , and same neutral background and decided that is going to be my theme. I agree with Amanda that there are just way too many cute journaling cards not to mix and match with throughout the year.

Now that I have my first week done, I am hoping that things will be a bit less stressful! :)

I'm as eclectic as it gets - I'll use different kits, cards, whatever I feel like. I don't care if it isn't matchy - I know I couldn't stick to 1 style.

I finally finished week 1, well, the left page anyway. :) I feel better about it now that I've done one page. I combined a few different cards on it and I think it turned out ok. I'll be using different papers throughout and I picked up Valorie's journaling card templates to help me out!

I think I totally misunderstood the question...lol. I use all sorts of different products on my spreads. I love for my pages to be super eclectic and look at each pocket as a separate layout. I thought you were asking about pocket protector pages for some reason.

I do try to keep the colors the same across a spread. Digitally, it's pretty easy to slightly alter a color on something so it flows better. I don't try to keep the colors the same in the whole album, but I do have a black and white with pops of bright color thing going, so I stay neutral with my background and journaling, then use journal cards to pop out the color. So far, I'm loving how it's coming together.

I am about to finish up my week 2 and post in the week 2 thread. I hope to keep it up this year and I will post them in the threads. I just saw yours, btw, and really loved it. I love how you put your artsy spin to it that is so much your style.

YAY AMANDA! I'm so so excited to see what you do with this! I always love anything you make, and I'm sure PL will be no different!

I stick with one kit/color scheme for a 2 page spread, but like most everyone else has said, no way could i use the same kit, even the same color scheme all year. But I did find that having all 6 different PL page protectors to choose from each week made me stressed out. This year I'm sticking with A & D for my main pages and letting my extra photos/stories dictate my inserts.

I decided to do that as well. For week 1 I used the same kit for papers and some additional touches from a few others, then week 2 will be a different kit. I'm not sure I'll always do 2-page spreads, we'll see what happens. I"m not going to set that limit.

Tali...I used Val's page protectors for my digi ones last year. I used Emily's Weekly cards for every week, and colored in the numbers to match my page for the week. After that, everything was different. I kind of looked at my photos for the week, and went with something I thought would go along well with them. I did some one page spreads, and some two. I'm a little bummed I didn't plan it better because some of my weeks are "off" in my book, but it's ok! I've thought about putting something else in there so I can move things around a bit.

I am doing a physical album now, but when I did digi P365 I kept the same font for the entire album. I also stamped on my photos (1/365, 2/365, etc.). In this year's album, I am putting a white border around all photos, and handwriting the journaling. I am also numbering my weeks, and using a date stamp for each day.
