I've been asked for a tutorial/demo on using templates in Affinity. The method I am showing you here is the same in all 3 programs (Photo, Designer and Publisher). I am going to be using Affinity Publisher in this example. This tutorial shows how to clip to a template that is in png format. This method can be used for other template formats too, but there are other methods that can be used with psd templates, that cannot be used for png templates. So another tutorial for psd templates has been written here. For this tutorial I am using Siggy 8 from the Siggy Templates Set 2 by Scrapping with Liz. Create a blank page in Affinity. My page is 12 x 5 inches - the same size as the siggy template I am using. Drag drop the layers from your file manager (I'm using ACDSee) onto the page one at a time starting with the bottom layer. In the layers tab select all the layers (click on layer one, hold down the shift key then click on the last layer) Click the Alignment Tool Select central in the horizontal alignment, then change Align to option to Margin. Repeat with Vertical Click Apply and Close. Next I'm going to crop papers to the paper shapes. I am using the BYOC June Little One Collection by Bella Gypsy. Click on the layer immediately below the green shape. Drag drop a paper onto the page. Because the layer below the green shape was selected the paper has been inserted into the page in a new layer directly below the green shape. Move the paper so it is covered by the shape. Resize or rotate the paper as desired. Right click on the green shape's layers icon in the layers panel and chose mask to below. Repeat this process to crop papers to the other shapes. If you want to make any changes to the size, rotation or positioning of the paper after it has been cropped, then right click on the paper shape's layer icon in the layers panel and chose release. If you want to change the paper used after it has been cropped, then click on the copped paper to select it, and chose Replace Image from the context tool bar. I'm going to add my elements now. I'm going to use an alpha for my name instead of text. Click on the name layer to select it. Drag Drop alphas onto the page. To make resizing and moving my name easier, I am going to group all the letters together. Select all the letters Right click and choose group from the menu Delete or hide the template's name layer (I prefer to delete) Repeat the process with other elements, and add shadows. For the text I set the font to The Toffee Chip font by Heather Joyce. Tutorial for Simple Shadows here. Tutorial for Advanced Shadows here.
