NBK Design has included some fabulous pattern tiles in the new Lucky Charms and Clover collection. The .pat files are Photoshop Specific. Nicole, has created her patterns for this product in a repeating pattern tile in .jpg format for those of us who use other software. In this tutorial I'm going to show you how to use .jpg pattern tiles in Affinity Designer. (The steps are the same for Affinity Photo and Affinity Publisher.) Part 1 - Importing the jpg files into an Assets Folder. If you don't already have the Assets Panel open (closed by default) open the Assets panel by going to the Windows Menu and clicking on Assets - a check mark will now appear next to the word Assets, and a new panel will open up. (It's on the left-hand side on my desktop configuration. To create an Assets Folder, click on the 3 lines at the top right of the assets panel, and select create new category. Give your new category a name. For this tutorial I'm using the new pattern tile pack in Lucky Charms and Clover by NBK Design. So I have named it NBK_LuckyCharmsCloverPat Open the folder in your file manager e.g Windows Explorer, or ACDSee etc. (I'm using ACDSee). Select all the tiles. Drag Drop them into the assets panel space. Part 2 - Applying a Pattern to a Custom Shape. Draw a custom shape (custom shapes tutorial here) With your shape selected, click on the gradient fill tool Now select a pattern from your assets folder Your chosen pattern is now applied to the shape. Notice the 3 handles, moving these will resize and rotate the pattern inside your shape. Clicking on a different pattern will change the pattern in your shape. If you draw another shape it will automatically apply the current pattern to it. If you want to return to a solid colour fill on your new shape, then change the fill type on the context tool bar from Bitmap to Solid Part 2 - Applying a Pattern to Text The steps for applying a pattern to text are the same as for applying a pattern to a shape In this Fun Scene I used the pattern tiles to create the wall and path.
