A Little Life

Honestly, it never gets happy. I kept thinking something GOOD would have to happen to balance it out. But how Jude's friends rally around him is really a beautiful thing, and that's what ultimately made me love this book.
 
I'm in. and..................did you see that Nov 22, 1963 is an 8 part mini-series on HBO? I saw an add (pop up) on my computer, and my tummy got in all knots from it, just the intensity of the book looks like they got a lot right!
 
It's on Hulu - started a couple of weeks ago. We don't have Hulu, so I am desperately hoping they'll release it on video!!
 
I read this one a little while back and Julie's right - it doesn't ever get really happy. But I was left thinking (for a long time) about the redemptive power of love - love of all kinds. It is so indescribably sad and brutal that I don't think I could actually bear to watch to watch a filmed version. Even an audio version would have been too much for me i think. I needed to read this and have it all inside my head; a private "little" story that I could weep, worry and wonder about.
 
I elected to read it, and I am finally hooked. Getting the names together was tough...jude is so compelling..I am drawn in.

Yes! I had a really hard time figuring out who was who and for some reason, I like to have a mental image of each person and had a hard time keeping straight the ethnicity of each person to keep my mental picture straight. Once I got them all straight, I was hooked!
 
It is a shared book on all of our Kindles. I keep telling my daughter she must read it and she still hasn't, so I'm super excited to learn we might be able to get it on video. I know she'd get hooked then! My son-in-law always teases us about how the more sad and tragic the better for us!
 
eek! #46 on requests for this book! I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that my branch library has been closed for 2 months due to snow damage of the roof? It reopens tomorrow-YAY!
 
I am to Jude having money(going to law firm) still in major pain and I can't even think about how he got broken...it makes my heart ache and it is just too much ugly/mean and for my mind to want to know...I admit to being a Polly anna(and liking it). I will go and play with my kids and dogs and have a bit more happy! lol

I just got this book and there is no way I'm going to be able to read it in a week. Lord is it big and fat! I may have to return it and get back on the waiting list or look for a used copy.
