Name 5 favorite things right now.

I've been thinking about how preferences, likes/dislikes change over time and what made me happy years past aren't things that necessarily please me now.

So...what are 5 things that you really enjoy at this time.

  1. Peanut butter and cherry jam toast. I've been having it at least 3-4 times a week this summer and had forgotten how much I love that combo. Having been low carb for so many years I had forgotten some of the foods I used to really enjoy. So glad I have started having this again. I now make it a bit healthier with whole grain bread rather than white bread.
  2. Cowboy hat and boots - never would have thought I would love wearing these but I do. I got short boots with a 1.5" stacked heel and they are so comfy and cute. Before moving to Alberta I almost never wore any kind of hat at all.
  3. Soothing nature music channel on the tv. I have been putting that on in bed so that when I wake up in the middle of the night I hear soothing enjoyable nature sounds (water, animals, birds, etc along with a soft melody in the background sometimes) that help to put me back to sleep. It doesn't engage my mind, keeping me alert. I don't think I'll ever sleep thru the night but at least I'm waking up a bit less and falling asleep a little faster now.
  4. Thin flowing robes. I used to bundle up in a warm soft housecoat all year round but these days I prefer a really lightweight thin kimono type robe. It provides a bit of coverup but no warmth which I don't need b/c I always seem to be too warm these days. Of course the middle of winter is a different story but even then I find that I can't wear the thick, warm, snuggly robes anymore. They are just hanging at the back of my closet but I just can't bear to part with them yet.
  5. Getting up early and going to bed before 11. I really like getting up by 7:30 and enjoying the early morning quiet. I sit at the kitchen nook with coffee, glancing out the big expanse of windows looking out into the fields across from us and read my book. Unless entertaining, I am seldom up past 11 these days. It's hard to believe that I was a night owl most of my life, staying up until 2-3 o'clock often.
It's funny how things change over the years.

Interesting question! We do change a lot don't we? I know a lot of what I enjoy now would have got a side-eye at the very least from my younger self!

I enjoy:

1. Wild swimming especially in really cold water. The colder the better! We ocean swim at dawn most days year round, and I loved the alpine rivers in France.

2. Getting up before 4am (usually at 3am). Although this morning it was 2.30am thanks to a tsunami alert blaring from the phone! :stars It started for work reasons (8am deadlines) but it actually helps with my sleep quality and pain levels a huge amount.

3. Going to the gym. This is a very new one and OK, not sure 'enjoy' is the word. I do enjoy being a cycle courier around London while on the exercycle, thanks to YouTube ;-) And I like the feeling of self-satisfaction after doing a circuit of weights and the results in terms of lessening pain and better fitness.

4. Sleeping with a humidifier. Another very recent innovation after I realised the winter heating was worsening my dry sinuses. Feels like a gamechanger, hope it lasts!

5. Wandering about with DH looking at wildflowers and birds on our travels, rather than being in big busy cities.

Yes to thin robes. This perimenopause has me too warm for thick robes. I want to get this moo-moos that I've been seeing all over TikTok in cute colors, they are thin like the Kimonos

what is this wild swimming in really cold water you speak of????
and before 4am? that is :crazy3

Things I'm enjoying right now

1. not being hot, again, perimenopause, I need to be cool all the time. rofl

2. adult coloring

3. walking outside during lunch talking to a friend

4. steady constant - a good bowl of ice cream

5. quiet mornings at my desk on the weekend by myself

1. Swimming for exercise.
2. A nice thick lotion. I have always hated lotion but lately my skin is so dry that I've been using it more and there's a Cetaphil moisturizing cream that is nice and thick - like a balm -- that I'm hooked on.
3. Audio books. I always loved going to the library or book store but I very, very rarely buy physical books anymore
4. 48 Hours podcast. Just discovered this one even though it goes back a looooong time. It's true crime but a little less intense/scary than a lot of true crime.
5. Jalapeno artichoke dip and spicy banana peppers. I'm loving these little pops of flavor lately.

1. walking/hiking before 7 a.m., before the sun gets high and the humidity is unbearable
2. my local library system
3. tofu ricotta
4. Charlie Follows' yoga YouTube channel
5. First Day Chancellorsville hiking trails (just 5 minute drive from my house, partly in woods, partly amongst soybean fields and I'm enjoying watching the plants grow)

My favorite things right now:
1. Summer vacation! And it got extended by 2 weeks thanks to renovations being behind schedule :)
2. Having time to read!
3. Spending time outside
4. Having a good gym routine again
5. All my little tomatoes and jalapenos getting ripe and giving me little snacks every day

Five of my favorite things right now:

1. Having a kitchenette in my bedroom...I have a little fridge and an induction cooktop, so I can avoid the roomies when I just want to be alone (which is mostly all the time after work...LOL).

2. The knit pajama sets I recently bought (cute print shorts with coordinating tops)...just all the comfy!

3. Avocado toast

4. Going to a co-ed Bible study on Wednesdays...it is a really lively discussion and everyone is very supportive of each other.

5. And, as always...Diet Coke!!! Lately, I've been buying cans so I'm using my stainless steel pink tumbler that also makes me happy because it keeps my pop cold and I can use a straw.

1 watching my daughter swim in a meet
2 my clean closet that I just barely organized
3 my owala water bottle
4 flip flop weather
5 back roller

1. My "ocean blue" pants - purchased as khakis for a ridiculously low price and dyed with dye I already owned. They're comfy, have really good pockets, are colorful, and not too hot
2. A buffalo chicken cheesesteak with a lemonade from Charlie's (my current "I don't know what I want to eat but I am too tired to cook" meal)
3. Little Sleepies pajamas - for me, for my son, for my husband, for my mom. They're soft bamboo and keep us cool (and somehow still keep us cozy in winter?). We have matching sets and I love it.
4. Pokemon TCG Pocket. Who knew I'd love Pokemon cards on my phone? I started playing so I could earn my son a special card he wanted but now it's a great form of stress relief.
5. Sleep! It's been in short supply these days so on the rare morning I wake up well-rested (with a well-rested kiddo), I am grateful.

1. Access to medication. Let's say it was a long four days in this house without two crucial medications....lesson has been learnt (it wasn't me who forgot but I dealt with the issues of not having those medications & it was not fun)
2. Soup - loved having a quick warming meal with a grilled cheese sandwich on cold rainy wintery days
3. Sleep - I struggle with it and two nights ago I had the best night's sleep in ages mainly because we had a power cut from 10pm until 3.40am then 5.30am until sometime before 8.30am thanks to wet weather and an idiot deciding vehicle vs power pole was a good idea!
4. A new pyjama top from the charity/op shop. I'd had it for awhile but hadn't used it til this week. It's nice and light weight but still warm which is perfect for me as I'm naturally a warm sleeper.
5. Wool blankets. Helped get through about a week of freezing or below freezing nights

1. Free time at home (it's been rare this summer)
2. Reading
3. Sleeping
4. Art journal playtime
5. Days under 80°F! :giggle

1. Sleeping in
2. Summer: sunny weather & long days
3. Traveling
4. Having all 3 boys home :heartlub
5. Morning coffee
