It's DH and I so we don't. I didn't know about the elf watching and reporting to Santa this year. That's a little much for me. But I have to admit I saw 2 cute elves on Amazon and I bought them. I'll move them around every now and then, more for a photo prop than anything. I would forget to move them every night.
I had never even heard of it until a few years ago. By that time, my kids were luckily too old to bother with it. I have a horrible memory. The last thing I need is one more thing to have to remember every day....lol
We had an elf for the past 3 years. My oldest is now 11 (almost 12) and I know he's outgrown it. I haven't brought him back and so far, the kids haven't asked. I think I'll just stay quiet. His name is Jake. I kept forgetting to move him last year so I really don't want to bring him back lol
i was surprised my DH rolled with it the last few years and was trying to think of 'good' things and would 'remember' when i forgot LOL we had Jingle for a year - who was retired to the gift wrapping section of the nth pole and couldnt come back the next year according to the letter Sparkle brought with him and he was here the last 2 or 3 years - i cant remember, so far this year he hasnt made an appearance (it's going on bdtime on Dec 2 here atm) and the kids havent said anything although there was speculation in the car earlier this year about whether or not he'd come....
i have my mom's vintage one. i put one in hubby cart at amazon, but he took it out, he didn't understand the photo shoots with
An elf just landed in Matthew's class at school today. I'm not sure what to think about it. (Sidenote: Yes, we are pulling him out to homeschool. DH thought we'd finish out December to be less disruptive. But we didn't send him today, We went to a movie and out to lunch instead.)
We don't do the Elf on the Shelf thing because I KNOW that I'd suck at it. My sister has one though and his name is awesome... Johnny Taco. Her boys named him. Lol!
Nope. I just don't have the time for any of that. I'm lucky to get up the decorations. Besides, why give the family inspiration for practical jokes?
i count my blessings every day that elf ont he shelf did not become a thing until my children were too old to care!
Bwahahahaha, Anne- I loved this!! I gotta admit, the Elf creeps me out! Yes, this!!! I love those calendars! I was so excited to break into my Lego Star Wars calendar yesterday!
oh how I wish I had nevah evah sent mine to school, and had their young minds full of mush all to myself! tee hee your day sounds super fantastic! yeah on fun with mom and dad!!!
My husbands Aunt sent us one a few years ago. I hate him. He is creepy and I never remember to move him. Thankfully my 12 year old doesn't believe. He helps me move him sometimes. I cannot wait for my other two to forget about him.
My husband and I are empty nesters so Christmas can become very ho hum. This year I decided to make it fun again by doing the elf thing. I bought an elf a couple years ago. We named him Bucky for Bucky Badger since we live in Wisconsin. On Dec. 1 when Rich walked into the kitchen he saw Bucky riding the reindeer I bought on sale after Christmas last year. I put a note that said, " I'm back". Rich said it made him smile. I know elves are supposed to be evil but I also know what it says in Romans 12:21, Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. Bucky has become overcome with fun.
hehe... I was wishing that after I started the first year. Glad I don't have to worry about it this year. Although it was fun to see her so happy. That is a little extreme. We've never done anything too risky with our elf or thought of it as being creepy, but I can see where it could seem that way. I can see where some peeps can take it too far. It's all just been for fun at our house, so it's all good. Glad that you are having fun with your elf. I've always just thought of it as a fun thing to do, but totally get that it's not for everyone.
There is only hubby and I at home so we don't have an elf, but my nephew's wife down in Sydney has one and posts her photos on FB and I love seeing them and have a good laugh. Sort of glad it wasn't around when my kids were young though, seems like it could be a lot work! lol!
I adore Elf on the Shelf. I was the first in my area to do it a few years ago, and it is spreading like fleas! There are no less than 10 people on my FB doing it this year! Haha!! We only had one elf, but we picked up a second when the little one was born. It is a bit trickier with two, but also a lot more fun! Our elves are Timmy (red) and Jimmy (green). Other years I just thought of something each night, but I forgot a few times and had to improvise quickly in the morning, which was hard. This year I have a list and all the supplies I need and I just pick something each night. Some days they are being funny/clever/silly or have something for the kids, other days they are just sitting somewhere. Our Elves aren't too naughty, I don't want the kids to get the idea that it is good to be naughty, they are just fun characters to have around at Christmas. And I get a kick out of it too. I think I will keep doing it long after the kids stop believing, lol! Here is what our Elves have been up to so far this year: (Top Left) Each year when they return they bring chocolate advent calendars. This was Bellamy's first advent calendar and he was thrilled! (Bottom Left) Today the Elves brought supplies to make paper chains to decorate the Christmas Tree (Top Right) A bit earlier this year than normal, the Elves had a new shirt for each kid for their Santa photo. (Bottom Right) Minion Bananas! (Left) The Elves were in jars today so that the kids could carry them around. Note to self - I mean Elves - plastic jars next time! The kids were quite upset when they dropped one of the jars and it shattered. Replacement jar and some tongs and we were good as new. (Right) This morning Melody came out of her room asking if I had any clean underwear for her because there were none in the drawer... She quickly found some, LOL!!
