I often see layouts in the gallery and wonder, "How did they do THAT!" Wouldn't it be great to see a thread where someone posted their page and gave a brief explanation of the technique they used to achieve some aspect of the layout. Occasionally I've seen scrapper do that in the credits section. Olga did that with her paper piecing technique. Just an idea that occurred to me...
that's a fun idea! i don't think i do any interesting techniques, so i wouldn't have much to say - but i'd love to see someone else do this!
None of us (well, I shouldn't speak for everyone) think we have cool/interesting techniques... but i always feel inspired if I helped someone else who didn't know about the thing I was doing.... Today I helped someone with a GIMP thing.... shadowing! As simple as finding the shadow option helped her.... now I want to scrap more. Lol
Fantastic idea! Great minds think alike. I just posted a layout and brief info with a link to the full details in the MPM - Viewpoint thread. --------- I wrote a blog post on how I converted my photo to black and white and added a high key effect in 3 easy steps. For more information on this process visit my blog at http://goo.gl/yJuAya
I rarely think, "Hey, I'm going to do something awesome!" but I'm sure a lot of us know how to do things other people don't know how to do. I guess I wouldn't know when to post in a thread like that unless/until someone actually asked me how I did something.
I was thinking of things just as simple as telling what blending modes were used for a photo treatment. Not necessarily mini tutorials.
I like this idea - but since no one seems to think they have a great or unique idea, how about you simply post to them, and ask them to explain it? You can then PM them and direct them to the thread so that everyone can read about it!
I sometimes feel bad when I forget to mention that my background paper is "made up" and not pulled directly from a kit. I love mixing papers to create a new paper for my background. Like this one I did a blend mode of two papers in the M3 kit to get this.
Great idea!!! I love this too!! Sometimes you get stuck in your old habots and this might actually trigger someone to try out new things!
I have been crazy with blending modes lately. !! I am wanting to work on text paths as my next "trick". Haha
Yes. I used lighter blend mode with Just Jaimee word paper and the blue distressed paper by LBW (I think).
Okay, since I brought it up. I'll do one: I have PSE and sometimes shadows are very difficult to get just right. On this layout I wanted to give a realistic shadow to the orange string and the white tag at the top of the trellis. I wanted the string to have a low shadow but the tag itself to have a larger shadow (like it is falling away from the trellis). So I duplicated the tag two more times putting a layer mask on each of the two copies. I changed the two copies to the shadow color (2c1901) with fill layer. I have a different Gaussian blur on each copy: 3 on the string shadow and 8 on the tag shadow. Using the layer masks, I erased the the unneeded shadows from each of the copies. I reduced the opacity of each shadow layer to 50%. That gave me two different shadows on the single tag. It's a WHOLE BUNCH OF STEPS I'm sure PS doesn't have to do, but with PSE it takes more time, but it gets there pretty well. I used the layer masks to erase parts of the ribbon at the bottom of the layout and the frame under one of the leaves, too. I had to add shadow parts to places that needed them with a soft round brush the color of the shadows and reduced opacities. Man, this sounds so complicated and I suppose it is but I am getting faster at it as I do it more and more. I envy PS users who can just warp shadows and easily put shadows on their own layer.
Wow. I just use 4 pixel offset and 60% opacity, almost all the time, for everything. Lol... Though, on things like washi tape, stitching, and small staples, I've found myself changing the opacity more lately. I know I've read somewhere in the past month or so the comment "back when I thought a shadow was just a shadow." I know I think a shadow is just a shadow, mostly.... :/
this is a great idea ... dalis love that "made up" paper! and diane - holy cow that is some serious shadow tweaking! love the effort and details you put into that page!
This is a great idea! I just never know when something I've done is something that others want to know. I'm always guessing what to write my tutorials on, lol!
