So, Saturday night we had the opportunity to have the band, The Verve Pipe, perform live in our living room. My PL books happened to be sitting on the coffee table. While the band was setting up, the lead singer Brian Vander Ark, starting looking through my books and asking all kinds of questions about them. He seemed pretty intrigued about the idea! And told me that he's honored that he'll be a part of our album when I told him that he'll definitely be in this week's layout! Those are my books under the set list
That is just too cool on so many levels. I went to college in Kalamazoo in the late 90s when they were HUGE there... I think they are from there, right? You totally should send them a copy of your PL layouts from this week!
Thanks everyone! It was an amazing experience! How they ended up in our living room is because to promote their new album, they had the opportunity to bid on private concerts on their website. We ended up getting one of them. They're pretty significant in our lives as a family (which makes me think that I may need to make a scrapbook page about it - maybe an insert to go with this spread). On the first day my husband and I met, he was trying to stump me on music. He would name an artist/band and I would have to name a song by them. I was doing pretty well and he was getting frustrated, so he threw out the name The Verve Pipe to stump me and I answered The Freshman. He was floored, I was from Missouri and at that time they were still just playing college towns around Michigan. I just happened to know a guy who went to Western Michigan who had played the album one day when I was over. When my husband and I started dating, we made a point to see The Verve Pipe whenever they came to Chicago... we even saw them in Springfield, MO one weekend when they were in town while we were visiting my parents. Jeff had seen them countless times while he was in college at Michigan State before we even met. Now, current day... it's still significant for our family. Our daughter, Clara, is on a competitive dance team and does a solo each year. This year my husband suggested the song Crash Landing from The Verve Pipe's new album and she fell in love with it. The band was so gracious and stopped everything when they were setting up to watch the video we had of Clara learning her solo to their song. They performed the song as part of their set and invited Clara up to dance along (which was great until she slipped wearing socks on our hardwood floors and "crash landed" on her backside in front of everyone... she was a trouper though, got up and kept going!). It was so special to all of us!
What a fabulous story! You need to just copy and paste that right onto a page with your photos. Such a wonderful memory. Thanks for sharing it!
I saw your video on Instagram - so cool to hear the story behind it! What a cool experience for your family!
