I got a new computer and when I opened Photoshop, I have a whole new set of problems. When I try to add a new layer of paper to a 8 x 8 page, it won't let me re-size the paper to fit the layer. Any suggestions? Still trying to make sure I can get the elements and pages to stay and float around by themselves. Yikes. I would appreciate any suggestions or help. Thanks.
Do you have a PC or Mac computer? I know for sure on a mac computer you use command T to "transform" size & then you pull the corners to resize. To make it keep the square I push shift at the same time. Not sure if that will help. Good luck!
Thanks so much. I have a PC. Never had this problem with my Photoshopcs4 on Windows 7. (Have 8 now and wondered if that changed things) Will go try your suggestion and see if that works. I used to be able to grab corners of paper and re-size. Truly baffling to me!
I do believe it is your preferences...they are coming in as smart objects edit>preference>general> the bottom box un check place or Drag raster images as smart objects now I could be completely wrong, but I think I had this problem too...lol see if that works...
Will try that,,too. The ctrl-t worked, but I used to be able to just add, resize in no time. ARgh!!! Will go try your suggestion, too. Thanks so much!!!
Thank you to my "helpers". I was about to lose it! Your suggestions are working. I have been doing this for years and thought I was going crazy! haha Wow, just remembered to check the box "transform box" control and wah-la, I can re-size again. OH my, I think I am finally "old". Really, you two girls immediately came to my rescue and both ideas worked, too. Thank you. The girls here on the pad are just the greatest and "bestest"!!!
For future reference, even if you have your items coming in as smart objects, you can still resize them using Ctrl-T. I drag all of my things into PS from Bridge, and they come in as smart objects. I do it because it names the layer the filename… which usually has the designer & kit listed.
Also what I do is "place" File>Place this will have you locate the background (or picture or element) and will place into the size of your workspace. You also won't have to worry about losing or doing something to the original and it will put the file name of the element in your layer palette I use Place all the time
Tori this is the same thing that File>Place does (brings it in as a smart object)... since I never used bridge in other versions, I now only use it (bridge) to locate my psd files as I can not "see my psd's anymore in the regular file so I use the bridge for that.
