I was a paper scrapper and I didn't know it...

What a week! I've been away for a while, helping my folks pack up the house they've lived in since I was fourteen (they're moving down to Florida and sunnier weather).

    Oh. My. God.

So much stuff. I found little trapper keeper notebooks that I drew pictures and pasted photos and stickers in when I was in elementary school. Letters from my grandma in Brazil. Ticket stubs from trips to Europe. Programs/certificates/stuff from everything I was ever involved in. College papers. And THOUSANDS of photos.

While it's really cool to see that I was a scrapper before I had any idea what scrapbooking was (I recognized most of them, even though I had totally forgotten them!), I'm a little overwhelmed at all of it. Most of the photos are going with my parents, but I'm taking a large share as well. My parents were awesome at documenting my childhood, but not so good at figuring out what to do with the photos (they're just in boxes). It seems to me that if I'm going to keep this stuff I should do something with it rather than just let it collect dust in a box in my basement for the next 30 years. But on the other hand, I'm a bit overwhelmed.

Have any of you tackled a project like this before? Where did you begin?

I don't think i can do them myself, there are way too many. And if i wait until all the pics are scanned to start, i'm afraid it'll never happen...

Do what I just did ... use the phone to take the photos. Then start working on a page for it. :giggle

I'm just plain lazy to setup the scanner. Bwahahahaaa!!!!!

Maybe you could outsource the scanning part... I wonder how much it would cost to get someone else to do it? Maybe find some responsible teenager who can work a scanner, or who you can teach, and pay them by the hour? I'm thinking it can't be much more expensive than a babysitter... You might want to group the photos into decades first. Oh, and I know my scanner will cut individual pieces apart into separate files. See if yours does too. Mine is a Epson Perfection V200.

PS: Is your family Brazilian??? :)) And I like Agnes idea... lol Take pictures of the photos and scrap with them. But Lynna-Marie's idea is great too! There's always a teenager wishing to win a few dollars... hehe

I like the idea of outsourcing it to a teenager. Do it by sections if not, pick which ones you want to work with and scan those. Scanning pictures now a day it's pretty simple. My scanner allows you to scan as many photos as you can fit in the scanner bed into different files.

I went through and scanned all our family albums a few years ago (just in case anything ever happened to then) and I found that a methodical approach worked best. Sort it into years and then just work your way through it .... a responsible teen sounds like a great idea if you don't want to tackle the job yourself ..... good luck with it!

Eeeegads! I've never taken such a thing on. I suggest just picking out the best or most important things to scrap. Then just organize the rest. Don't stress yourself out.

I don't scan either, I take photos of the photos as it gives you a much better resolution to then scrap them.....
but that will also take ages for you...even more than scanning...
I would do what was suggested: find a teen who wants to earn a bit of money and get them to do it?
otherwise, what I did when sorting stuff in the first trip to my parents when I got boxes to bring to Europe was to look through and select the most important, put them in albums bought at charity/thrift shops for under £1 and then I took the photos much later when I started digi scrapping...but it would be a shame if you dont do anything with them...
I know I was grateful my parents kept so many photos....
