mmmmm... we're just now getting back into full throttle smoothie making. i get way lax in the winter months about it.
I love to add Organic Hemp seed or Chia seed for protein, sometimes Flax seed, along with spinach/kale/baby romaine and fruits like banana, peach, pineapple, wild blueberries, mango, etc.... I mainly use frozen fruit and try to get organic when I can. I love adding Goji also (dried fruit, really good with orange and banana and peaches).
I want to do green smoothies, but the one recipe I tried turned out HORRIBLE! It seriously tasted like I was drinking a salad. I'm guessing the fruit ratio was off. Any good beginner recipes you recommend? I have to have a recipe not just ratios, I'm that type of cook
Try the "Beginner's Luck" smoothie. 2 cups spinach 2 cups water 1 cup frozen mango 1 cup frozen pineapple 1 banana Blend your spinach and water first. Next add the remaining fruits and blend until smooth. YUM!!
My smoothie "staples" list: Fruits/Veggies (fresh or frozen) Bananas Apples Honeydew Kiwi Cantaloupe Strawberries Blueberries Tart Cherries Mango Pineapple Cucumber Celery Avocado Liquids: Coconut Milk Coconut Water Soy Milk Greens: Kale Spinach Other Stuff: Chia Seeds Milled Flax Almond Butter PB2 Hulled Hemp Seeds Organic Agave I just have a 35 dollar blender from Target...but I love it. My greens I started blending and freezing into ice cubes. It makes it not only faster in the morning to make but gets it nice and cold too. I don't do dairy regularly in my smoothies but you can also add greek yogurt. A lot of people also use Almond Milk but I don't like it so I go for coconut.
You see that tastes so good!!!!! I guess it would be ok, to put some powder protein in it, right? Or does the spinach has enough?
alrighty then!! I'm going to give it a go tomorrow and try it out. I'm not really adventurous with my drinks...I'd rather eat a bowl of kale salad than drink a smoothie, but it might be good for my boys that aren't eating as many veggies as they should.
When I get home from the grocery store I put all of my leafy greens in the freezer (totally ok to do). Keeps them lasting longer! As for added protein, yes... I add chia seeds or hemp seeds for a natural form of protein.
Thank you so much!! I got me a fab mixer/blender duo for my 30th!! Will be doing some extra shopping on monday.. if I leave it to hubby I will garanteed get the wrong stuff haha
