Starting on Monday, I have 4 glorious weeks of vacation from work. I'll be traveling to Vancouver Island and then down to my parents' house in Iowa. We don't have a lot of plans while we're away (DLB is coming with!) and would love to get in some good reading. Only problem is, I'm out of touch with books right now and need help! Does anyone have any good recommendations for somewhat light, fun reading? Pretty please? :flirty

I enjoyed Twilight and Hunger Games but have never read Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings if that helps.

    Thanks! :heartslub

Nice!! I'm so out of the loop with reading too...I haven't read anything in months with all the busyness of the school year. What about playing along with the book of the month in the reading pad?

Harry Potter is wonderful. It starts getting really good around book 3.

A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin is great if you like fantasy, though it is a bit gritty in parts. Game of Thrones is the first book and the name of the HBO series that is based on the books.

The Flight of Gemma Hardy by Margot Livesay. It is a lovely read, a modern twist on Jane Eyre.

I tend to really like classics, so I'll go back and pick up The Great Gatsby or Pride & Prejudice again. Or I'll grab one that I've always meant to read and haven't gotten to yet. Two "contemporary classics" that are on my list are Life of Pi by Yann Martel and A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan.

    Definitely Harry Potter!
A fun light read I recently enjoyed: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.

If you liked Hunger Games you should give Matched, Crossed and Reached a try. They are pretty similar and are quick easy reads. The 3rd one (Reached) just came out and I just finished it today. Was a good series.

I also read the Restoration series this summer (4 books) starting with Last Light by Terri Blackstock and they were SO good. It's about what would happen if the power went out and how people don't know what to do without cell phones and electricity. (or computers {gasp}) :)

I loved the Restoration series! Terri Blackstock is an old favorite of mine. I saw Matched, Crossed and Reached listed in the book of the month thread, and thought I might start there.

You could read along with our December book selection! Also, we'll be reading Reached in February, so if you haven't read Matched or Crossed, you could read those so you'll be ready for Reached in February. They're quick, easy reads.

I definitely recommend reading Harry Potter, and also second the suggestion of the Game of Thrones series. Man I wish the next book would come out already!!

Also, read The Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger. I recommend that series to anyone. They are awesome.

I know this is coming to you late, but here are my suggestions:
    The Edge of Never
    The Sea of Tranquility
    Hopeless
    Slammed/Point of Retreat

When I finished The Hunger Games I had no idea what I could read that wouldn't seem to dissapoint... I read Divergent by Veronica Roth and loved these books, there's 2 books released so far in the triology. I also just finished Hopeless by Colleen Hoover tonight and when I rated it a 5 star in goodreads, I felt like all my other 5's weren't worthy anymore lol
