What do you use? I am trying to avoid plain old sugar but I still need to have something for my morning coffee. For a while it was Splenda, but I am leery of the chlorine component. So what do you use? Truvia? Stevia? Agave?? So many choices!
raw honey or if you can find it raw agave... my understanding is truvia is NOT stevia and is just as bad as splenda or sweet n low... and I've also heard that the agave you can find in most stores, unless it's raw is just as bad as HFCS so I just stick to local raw honey also I've heard that liquid stevia is better than the powder
I use Truvia, but it's a bit sweeter than sugar so I use less of it. I only really use it in my iced green tea and my homemade salad dressings.
raw sugar, honey, agave, real stevia.. all of these things i have used on semi regular basis while i prefer sugar i think agave is the next best for tea and what not. I don't drink coffee so this is the best i can do
I use regular old sugar. The idea of artificial sweeteners bothers me and I don't care for honey. Using other sweeteners seems risky since it seems like they can cause other problems. I don't use that much sugar anyway.
I went cold turkey Laura when giving up the sugar (even in my coffee!) so I don't have any personal experience of sweetening drinks sorry but I have read alot about giving up the sweet stuff in my recent health quest . It really depends if you are just giving up sugar or giving up fructose because if you are just cutting back on your white sugar intake honey is a good natural alternative. But if you are giving up fructose then according to David Gillespie, author of Sweet Poison, the best sweeteners if you are quitting are none (haha), dextrose, or stevia (a natural sweetener that contains no fructose). You can also try Rice syrup or glucose syrup . Agave is high in fructose so its on the no-no list for me and well the other artificial sweeteners are just chemicals so again big no-no ... ok rambled on long enough
I tried Stevia once, in Trader Joe's at their coffee sample bar and it gave me a raging headache moments later. My main sweetener for a while was Sucrolose. My daughter still uses it. I switched back to straight white sugar, tho, when it got to be TOO sweet for me, with too much aftertaste. The others also leave a too sweet, chemically aftertaste for me. But now I'm only drinking decaf coffee on Saturday with sugar. One packet of sugar is 15 calories. I take about two or three in a mug. It's not that bad once a week calorie-wise.
I use Splenda but I need to change that. Might just get raw sugar because I couldn't imagine putting honey in my coffee.
For my coffee, I use sugar free vanilla syrup. I'm sure it's sweetened with Splenda. Right now I'm being bad and eating anything I want, but I'm going to have to be good soon. My body feels so much better when I do.
I use so little sugar that I stick with plain old white sugar. If I use sugar it's for my oatmeal or baking or cooking, and even then it's limited.
So while I was at the grocery store a little while ago, I went ahead and got Sugar In The Raw. Hopefully this is way better than Splenda or any artificial sweetner and tastes good too. It doesn't look like there are a ton of calories either which is nice!
I drink my coffee black without sugar, also usually no sweetener in my hot tea usually (sometimes but very rarely I'll add honey), for iced tea I use reg old granulated sugar...I know it's not great for you..but nothing else seems like it is either..and I don't really use much..just about a 1/4 cup or so for a gallon. I've thought about switching to raw sugar but it's so expensive comparatively speaking.
I can't use any of the no/low-calorie sugar substitutes . I have an immediate weird/intense reaction to even something simple like those juice sparklers or sugar-free gum that has it in there. My daughter just bought some cans of V8 sparkling juice drink and I took the tiniest sip and instantly knew it had artificial sweetener. We'd thought it was just juice, but it wasn't. It is frustrating.
