Print out thumbnails of all the elements in every kit I have? One page for each kit I have.
I can't ever remember what I have to scrap with. Today I thought I only had a few frames. Turns out I have over 200! I found so many kits I forgot I owned. Would it make sense to set up a binder with a page for every kit showing thumbnails of what is in it. I might feel more inspired to scrap if I could see all the great stuff I have! Is there an easy way to print out a thumb nail of everything I have in a single folder? Do you think this whole thing is a waste of time and ink? I know tagging might help but I don't want to do that right now and I'm not looking for a specific element just a sense of what I have. I know I could just print out the preview but you can't always see everything. I never mix and match kits on a page cause I can't think what I have. I'd love opinions!

omgosh... no way i would ever do this - the simple cost of ink alone (*shudder*). do you file with something like ACDSee? that might help.

I dont use ACDSee nor do I tag. I just use folders in windows and I save on thumb drives. Right now there is no money for a tagging program or an external hard drive. I have to figure out something. I thought with a binder I could flip through and see what I have.

I wouldn't ever print all the thumbnails out. You can use Windows find feature to look for specific things, like frames, assuming the designer named it with "frame" in the file name. I think printing would be a waste of ink and paper.

Thumb drives aren't the most stable of places to keep single copies of kits/files. How many KB or Gigs of material do you have? How many thumb drives? If you can spare $10-20 dollars, you can buy some decent quality DVDRs, and download kits by designer or store or however you onto a DVD. That way you could reorganize what you have, maybe print out a list of folders to keep track, or start a simple spreadsheet with your purchases if you can't transfer them to DVDR, but still want to know what you have. It would take time, but it would be worth it.

The DVDs are a good idea. I was going to do that once but didn't know how to get the info on the DVDs. I was told I had to buy a program to burn the info on the discs. I cant afford to buy a program right now. Is there a cheap easy way to get the info from my thumb drives to the discs. I did put all my TLP files on two drives so I have a backup but I would easily lose all of the pages I've made which would be very bad. I also have kits from other stores saved in only one place. Can anyone te me how to save to DVD. Do I have to format also? I don't know what I'm doing.

Well. Okay, does your computer have a DVD player/disc burner in the tower?

How can I check? There is a player for sure. It is a new HP computer bought this year. Do they all have a burner?

Terrific! It's a new computer then? Great! Then it should have come with the Windows burner program.

I'd say the easiest way is to put in a blank DVD and see what the computer tells you. Usually they ask you if you want to burn files to the DVD.

I agree, I wouldn't bother printing thumbnails, but I actually keep a Word Doc with a 2" "thumbnail" of all the kits I have by date and where I bought them. I just keep adding to it, but that's the place I can go to scroll through everything I own all in one place. It's embarrassing how many times I've opened my most recent "Purchased" Word doc and see something I forgot I had too. :giggle

No printing! Anything I have on paper gets lost. I don't tag either, but i do have a general idea of what i have, and when I don't, I use the 'search' feature in Windows Explorer, as Christine mentioned. I cannot be bothered to organize beyond store & designer, so if a designer doesn't name their own kits with 'frame-x', then I guess I'd miss their frame, but there are enough other frames on my hard drive, that I'm bound to find something that inspires me!!!

I would tag in Windows. Quickly before you have too much stuff to catch up. LOL

I can't remember what I have either, but I wouldn't print them all - it would just be too much.

I used ACDSee a while ago but it ended up being more of a headache b/c I kept getting duplicate files

This is what I do now....
I have everything divided by store and then designer....kits go in the designer's folder (collabs/store collabs go in their own folders)

Then I have a PREVIEWS folder and within that folder I have designer folders again
I copy the previews of the kits/alphas/papers/etc.... and paste them into the designer's folder (collabs are pasted in both designers)

I take it a step further and paste those same previews by category too....kits are by theme and I have one for alphas, frames, stitches, WA, etc........

I hope that wasn't too confusing!!

Now I can go to a designer's preview folder and see what I have.
