What's a wedding without speed bumps?

Let's see how short I can make this with still feeling like I'm getting to get a good gripe out of it. ;)

I moved to New York. I made an apartment a home. And now the rent is going up next year and the three of us can't afford to stay so we are moving. No big deal right? Well the lease is up August 31st and the wedding is scheduled in New York for October 20th.*

Option 1: stay in New York.*
1a. We probably can't afford to find a studio on our own that's anywhere near anything. *Veto.*
1b. Move in with friends into a tree bedroom. Who really wants to live with a newly married couple and their two dogs? My best friend who is our roommate now already resents the dogs and the reason we have two is because she convinced me she could care for it and have responsibility for her. No regrets though... I love the pup! Veto.*

Option 2: move out of New York. Keep the wedding in New York. Despite the extra expense, there was a reason I wanted to have the wedding in the same city as myself to begin with. Veto.

Option 3: move us and the wedding. Gulp. I can't even remember how or why we started looking at homes where we did but... It happened and we are falling in love with the idea more and more. The small problem is moving the wedding. Luckily none of the family has booked travel anything nor the photographer (who is located in texas) but we have a deposit at a restaurant.*

So here is my to do list for everything:*
    - change the event in NY from a wedding to an engagement party/going away party. Keep it limited to immediate family and NY friends.*
    - find a venue in ... Big reveal time: Austin. I think we have found one that won't force us to change the date. Woot! But we need to see about accommodations because it is a home game weekend for UT.*
    - Find out when we will have a shower in VA which my future step-mom-in-law is planning. Book tickets.*
    - Find another free weekend closer to August to goto Austin to tour homes.
    - Find jobs for us in Austin. Luckily it's not too difficult to transfer within the Apple network but as a bonus there is a corporate campus in Austin. So that may become an option as well.*
    - alert everyone of the change.*

That doesn't seem too bad now that I say it all at once. But I'm sure I'm forgetting a ton of things. But that's enough of an update for you ladies to know where I've been and what's been happening.

Might as well get pregnant a month before the wedding, too, just to make it even MORE of a big event. :giggle

Geez, that's a lot to think about and plan all at once. Good luck with the move. We almost moved to Austin a couple years ago but the job didn't pan out.

Austin is a very pretty town. The Texas climate is pretty nice year round in comparison to New York, I would imagine.

You'll get all these arrangements taken care of, just enjoy this exciting time!

Wow! I think that qualifies as a bit more than a speed bump. Maybe more of a detour. How exciting though! :D Hope everything goes smoothly!!

Wow Heather, that is a lot - but you are Super Woman and nothing can stop you. Just cancel it all and elope in some far off exotic place.

    YES!!!

Ha, I for sure thought that as well. Maybe option 1.1 lol. I threatened my best friend with that idea. She realized how stressed I was and quickly helped to calm me down.

You can do it! Definitely delegate what you can and ask people for help. Maybe you can stay with family or friends and move into your new home after the wedding? Or better yet when you're off on your honeymoon have your family move it all for you! LOL

We built our home and moved in two weeks before our wedding. It was stressful at the time. But after we were married we had so much fun making our house a home and having everything settled. It was worth the stress.

    Good luck!

Holy Cow! That's big news, Heather! I have to say the moving to Austin and getting a home by far sounded like your best option! Tana used to live in Austin and LOVED it. I have only heard good things about Austin.

At least you are figuring out this stuff more than a year in advance. I think you should totally go for it!

I wonder if the restaurant would consider returning your deposit since it's over a year in advance? I think it would be worth asking.

And remember, whatever you guys decide is best, your family will understand. I'm just glad you figured this out before you booked travel.

Lots of changes! But enough time to work it all out! You have a good plan! And I totally agree with Carolee..delegate where you can..and really? Don't sweat the small stuff. Lots of luck sweetie! Don't forget the most important thing: enjoy it. No matter what happens..let it be something you and Wes are happy about. In the end, that's what matters. :beat

Yikers! Sounds like all positive changes though, so just go with it and have fun! And, you're lucky enough to say you lived in NYC for awhile. :) No regrets, right?
