EDITED WITH PICTURES ON PAGE 3! My city is having a rinky dink Comicon this weekend. A small one compared to the ones that happen in bigger American cities. Guests include William Shatner, Brent Spiner, Lou Ferigno .. . none of which I care about. But ADAM BALDWIN will be there! AKA Jayne from Firefly. I'm a HUGE Firefly fan so I'm very excited! I'm going to try to catch him at a signing or photo op. But I'm nervous! It's such an awkward thing to do. I have no clue what to say! Last summer I got to meet Prince William and Catherine and I totally froze like a deer caught in headlights. BOTH times. The first time I was barely able to mumble "Welcome to Canada" and the second time I just smiled stupidly when Kate made some comment about my hat. So tell me . . .how do you meet a celebrity and NOT be a dork!? What should I say to Adam Baldwin? Anybody else here ever been to a Comicon? Or have a fun celebrity encounter story? Do share!!
Hmmm...I've never done it, so I certainly wouldn't know!! I'd dork out I'm sure, but I usually dork out even when meeting a regular person, lol.
Lemme tell you about NOLA Comicon and being inches away from Sean Patrick Flannery & Norman Reedus....I'm talking so close I could smell them...I was so nervous I couldn't even pull out my dumb phone to snap a pic...epic fail!
I think my husband and I have been dorks every single time we've met a celebrity, so I'm no help, LOL. I have a photo of Todd and James Marsters (from Buffy The Vampire Slayer) somewhere on my HD... can't find it right now.... Living in San Diego, we've been to Comic Con only once, and didn't meet any celebs.
How fun!!! I would love to go to something like that! Good luck! Just smile and say, "I love your work!" ha! Can't go wrong with that!!
Oh that sounds so awesome Michelle!!!!! I went to comic con here in NYC and it was super awesome. I saw a few celebs and I only really got to meet the guy who plays Dot Com on 30 Rock. I was too cheap to pay to go into the autograph alley area. I spent more time talking to the artists who were all really cool. Take lots of pics! I want to see, especially if you get to meet Adam Baldwin. And bring a big bag in case you decide to do some shopping! I got awesome stuff! Do you watch Castle? Did you see the episode Adam Baldwin was in???
I am a HUGE dork, because I met and spoke to a celebrity withount even knowing it! My husband was coaching my son's football team last year and I was talking to a new family, afterwards another mother, the teams manager came over and said 'so you met Cate', I looked over and realised it was Cate Blanchet!! I was just not thinking because I really hadn't expected her to be doing normal family stuff. So just remember they are normal people just like you.
Sounds fun! I was going to say what Amanda said... remember they're just regular people. We've had enough "famous" magicians stay at our house over the years now (most of them you probably have never heard of LOL), that it's made it easy for me to just see celebrities as normal earthlings. Some are really interesting great conversationalists (which I am not, so that takes some skill) and some are shy or more reserved, some are really down to earth and some are really full of themselves, some are very confident and some are very insecure. People are people. (Wait isn't that a song? )
Haha! Me too! HA! I'm terrified of doing that too. Oh wow! If I lived there I'd go every year! omg that's awesome! love him! DO I WATCH CASTLE? I'm hurt you would even ask Robin LOL! Of course. Actually that's a really good talking point now that you mention it! I could tell him "Loved you on Castle a few weeks ago!" Wow! That's crazy!
Oh so poetic! But you are totally right. I can't imagine what it must be like having to do these conventions over and over and meeting countless people and having the same lame conversations with them one after the other. If any of them are grumpy I'm not going to blame them! lol
I can' believe you got to meet William's Catherine!!!! That must have been cool. Did you snap a pic? I remember being so thrilled when I got a wave back from Princess Diana - she wasn't on an official "tour" in Toronto, just being driven (3 black limos plus a Police escort) somewhere, and we waved just for fun from the sidewalk, and she waved back! So I'd dork out too if I met someone in person!
Wait a minute, Kate Middleton said something to you about your hat? How friggin' cool is that? Who cares that you didn't say anything-- that's a great story all by itself! Now here's the thing-- you felt a little bummed that you got tongue-tied when you met them last year, right? So let that be a lesson to you-- practice what you want to say so that you feel comfortable. Then, in the magic moment, practice the technique I teach my kindergartners when they get nervous: 1. curl your toes in your shoes 2. take a deep breath 3. say what you gotta say Hey, you're such a fantastic designer that he should be nervous about meeting you!
Yeah I couldn't believe it either! I showed up there with no expectations. I just wanted to see them drive by in the car. But we got SO lucky! The first day was at Rideau Hall. They had just gotten off the plane and were coming for the "welcome ceremony". We lined up outside the gates with hundreds (thousands?) of people and when they opened the gates everyone stormed on the grounds and it was so hectic. I had NO idea where to go to see them. The front spots got taken up quickly (where the ceremony was going to take place) and we got stuck lining the road leading up to that area. We waited and waited . .. and then some action started happening right in front of us. Security guards, people talking . .. so we asked what was going on and they said "They'll be stopping the car RIGHT HERE and walking the rest of th way." So our bad spot turned out to be the BEST spot! They got out of the car right in front of us and we were some of the first to shake hands with Will. (Kate did the other side of the road so we missed her that day) It was so awesome! The second day I had a better idea what was happening because the event was at the museum where I work. We just showed up super early (I think we stood there for 4 hours) and got a perfect spot again. That was the day Kate commented on my hat. I was wearing a red cowboy hat with a Canada flag on it (it was Canada Day) . ... long story short . ..they were really really nice! Not fake nice but genuinely nice. I have two sets on my Flickr with pictures A Royal Welcome at Rideau Hall Canada Day with the Royals
I'm a big comic book geek and a few weeks ago I went to a comic con over here in chicago where Annie Rice, John Cusak, Sean Astin and Val Kilmer to name a few and this not being my only comic con where I met some famous ppl that I love from a far I would just tell you be your self I remember meeting Stan Lee I was so freaking out back in the line in my wheelchair was nervous not to get notice by the man he heard me tell my sister that he came out from behind the table came straight at me behind down and said hi to me sign autographs pictures and give me a hug told him you made my day and that means the world to me he said you don't realize what you mean to me ! I freak out he remember me the next year too ! it was cool As for meeting John Cusak I completely was insane fan scream out to him I love you John! he was really sweet ! Have fun fellow Michelle
I ::: your Royal photos, Michelle! OMGosh, that is SO cool! Your photos are amazing! I used to work at the Energy Solutions Arena in SLC, Utah as a security guard. I've met TONS of NBA players and they were all so nice! I found that they actually sought me out, since they could tell I had no idea who they were, haha. It was pretty funny, since I'm 5'4½" and they are MAJORLY tall. They would get a kick out of a little person like me walking them out to their bus. They were all so nice. I would find out later who I talked to and write it down to tell the hubby. I once had a 20 minute convo with Danny Ainge (former NBA player & coach) and had no idea who he was, he was the coolest guy! And I met Steve Young (past 49er's QB). It's sorta ironic I met so many sports people when I don't really "do" sports so much. I do like any live sporting event, but I don't really follow sports on tv or anything. I also met Huey Lewis and Bill Murray when they came golfing a few miles from where I grew up. I was in 8th grade. I saw them tee off and Huey hit a golf ball over the road, so I ran and got it and had him sign it when he was finishing up. They were totally funny and short. I was so surprised. I've heard tons of celebrities are short. I guess that's when actors are concerned, not so much the NBA players, lol. I do feel a certain energy being around celebrities, and they are always so nice to me. I've also met come country groups I used to be way into in the 90's like Reba, Sawyer Brown, gosh I can't even remember now, I will have to go dig through my paper scrapbooks to remember, haha. They were always sweet and cool to talk to. I would always try to ask them an interesting question so I would have an excuse to talk to them. Oh yeah, we did sorta sneak backstage and met the whole SYTYCD (So You Think You Can Dance) dancers and that was awesome. I have pics of that on my facebook for those of you who have me on there. I'm still in shock that Kate Middleton talked to you. That trumps all my celebrities for SURE! That IS an amazing story, OMGosh! You are darling, and will do great. Talk about having met the coolest celeb's already... Please let us know how it goes!!!!! So excited for you!
