girls, i just wanna cry a bit. we bought a new house at the end of march 2011. in july 2011 they tore up the hard wood floor in the kitchen / eat-in space because the back door had leaked and the floor was swolen so badly that the door wouldn't open. about 2 weeks ago, if that, they finally got the floor re-laid. we are still waiting on the trim work to be fixed and repainted. it's been an ordeal. but at least we have a door that doesn't leak and a full floor again (vs. floor and sub-floor combo) or so i thought. with the rain that we've been having over the past 3 days now, the door is back to its old ways. the floor is starting to swell, and water is coming in and puddling up on top of the floor as well. this means we have to start all over. in the chilly october weather, take the door out, replace it, tear out the floor, replace it, redo the trim... AGAIN. *sigh*
Oh no! Sending you many virtual hugs. I hope they can figure out the problem and get it fixed permanently.
Oh my gosh, Rebecca! *hugs* What a huge ordeal. Are you guys DIYing it, or is a contractor doing the work? I hope that the next time everything is done right and you don't have to deal with it again!
Oh no Rebecca, this sucks! My mom has been battling with a similar problem for years now, it's a leak in the ceiling (she lives in an apartment). Periodically the workers say they've fixed the leak, my parents clear the rooms, have them repainted, and then it leaks again. The fact that the moron who lives upstairs keeps running the sprinklers to water his plants sure doesn't help. It's so frustrating! I can't believe this is happening to you with a brand new house! That's quite a puddle you've got!
Shannon, no thank GOD we are not DIYing this. It's under warranty, so they are paying for everything... which is exactly why it wasn't done right the 1st time around... they thought they could just replace the door FRAME and not the DOOR. I argued the point, but they wouldn't give in. I told them, okay as long as you know you'll be doing it again if there are any further issues. "Oh, there won't be any more trouble with this, I'm sure." That was their answers. Sucks to be them paying for it all a second time around. I'm having a hard time feeling sorry for them though.
Aw, that's awful. At least it's their tab, and not yours. Sound like there is a grade problem that needs to be fixed as well, the water really shouldn't be sitting near your back door, it should be slanted away from the house. I would make sure they fix the grade too.
UGH!! We have a leaky basement and it's been raining for 3 days. Is it wrong that I won't even go down and look? I just don't think I can emotionally deal with what I might find. At least now I'm hanging onto my sanity by a thread.
heather it only happens when the rain hits the house and drips down. i'm fairly comfortable that it's not a grading issue. i think it's just a poorly manufactured door, and the panels leak instead of repel. angie, that SUCKS about your basement. i think i would be leary of going down there too. you can share in some of my digi hugs if it will make you feel any better.
Oh - we had a similar problem with our windows on the North facing wall of our house. We ended up getting a very good silicone sealer specially designed for this for around the windows and they applied it very liberally and the leaks have finally stopped!
Ahh Rebecca, that's terrible! Thank goodness it's under warranty and I'm with you...I don't feel sorry for them one bit for having to redo the whole thing. HUGS!!
ugh... that.sucks. you'd think they'd fix the underlying issue rather than just replace the floors, so this won't happen again. so sorry you're dealing w/ that junk! xo
Rebecca, I am so sorry to read this! Big, huge hugs to you! They should have to fix it for you! Hope it is done right this time!
UGH! HUGS!!!!! That is AWFUL! We had similar issues when our house was built and it sucks! PS: I haven't forgotten about you! I promise to get with you soon!!! xoxox!!
