one of my really good friends wants to start digi. she doesn't have photoshop (thats what i use) but says she has gimp. i'm not familiar with that program. although my daughter has played around with it some. can you digi scrap with it? any and all help would be greatly appreciated! thanks! -J
I don't know anything about Gimp but I came across some old digiscrapping tutorials on using the program. They might help your friend. http://scrapbooksgonedigital.blogspot.com/2007/09/gimp-digital-scrapbook-tutorial.html
I know that Gimp is very similiar to Photoshop and it´s free. I haven´t used it though. But I´m sure that you can scrap with it easily!
i tried to use it once back in the day but i had no idea what i was doing,so it was super frustrating (as any other program would be in said clueless state).
I know when I tried to use Gimp to scrap I got frustrated with the text options and journaling ... probably my inability to understand the program though...I also could never quite figure out how to use a clipping mask even though there were multiple tutorials..again probably user error. I use Craft Artist by Serif for my scrapbooking and they offer a completely free version (although fairly limited-i really don't like the premade shadows you are stuck with in the free version) of the software that she might want to try...totally easy to use and may at least let her get her feet wet for free. Plus if she decides she wants the full version it's only $30. There are things that I believe it does better than PSE and things that PSE definitely handles better but in the end it became a toss up and the lower price point won me over.
I use gimp for scrapping Jacque - let me know if there's anything you/she is stuck on. I'd say that it's better than elements (for scrapping, not photo editing) as you can fiddle around with the shadows but probably not as good as photoshop. But I can't afford photoshop so I muddle along . Hopefully they'll be releasing the new version soon which should have new toys (they've been saying they're going to for about two years though which is pretty frustrating!).
