I can fix the basics, but don't have access to bigger tools to do much more than that. I think the last thing I fixed was a swivel desk chair that was loose and needed the bolts tightening. I do my own appliance maintenance cleaning out filters and doing regular safety checks (washing machine, shower and vacuum etc)
I am! I love fixing things and do it all the time. I recently fixed our sprinkler system -- replaced/rewired the solenoid on the valve controller. Last week, I dismantled my son's daybed/trundle bed to donate and over the weekend, I installed a cord cover to cover the tv cords in that room (our new guest bedroom now that he's moved out). I also put in all new switchplate covers but that's easy. My kids pretty much think I'm a magician although I keep telling them most of this stuff isn't hard -- you just have to patiently work your way through it. Things I don't usually fix are large wall repairs (we have textured walls and it's really hard to get the texture right), big plumbing jobs (although I will swap out toilet mechanisms and fixtures as needed), installing overhead lighting (don't like working on ladders these days and I hate working over my head!).
I'm the fixer in my house. My husband is NOT handy so little bits & bobs fall on me. If it's a bigger job than I can handle I'm not afraid to ask my dad for the assist.
I am lucky to have a hubby that can fix many things. My daughter and I google things so can help direct with the steps to follow but the actual manual fixing of things is left to my hubby. A few days ago a pipe had started leaking on the basement level in my daughter's suite. I thought we'd have to call a wkend emergency plumbing service but my hubby was able to remove the cracked section and replace it. Before winter we'll get a plumber out here to check if we need more pipe insulation put back into the wall in that area but it's not an emergency now. Glad we saved money on that repair b/c the same day, a stone chip happened as I was driving and yesterday it created a crack halfway up the window so now we'll have to get the car in to replace the windshield.
I'm the fixer! My hubby is really handy at all or just does't prefer to be lol. I'm getting ready to rebuild our front stairs, but I've done a lot of other things - rebuilt a ramp to our outbuilding, fixed washers and dryers, replaced garbage disposals, replaced outlets and switches, installed lighting, etc. The only things I really haven't done are major plumbing or big electrical things. I love fixing and building things.
Not really. Heck, right before I left for my trip, the light went out in the bathroom (fluorescent light). I bought the replacement but couldn't change it out. When my neighbor came over to see what I needed done while I was gone (lawn work), I asked if he would do it. No problem for him since he is tall. But with my broken ankle I was not going to climb up on a short step ladder to do it... I usually have to stand up on the counter to do it!
Not particularly, I'm sorry to say. I've been happy to let my husband take care of fixing things. I have done a little, like putting together bookcases and the computer chair I'm sitting in, but very little of anything more complicated like plumbing/electrical/etc.
Decently so, but I know my limitations, lol. I've fixed some appliance and wired out hot tub, but I also know when it's time to call the professionals
I can put some flat packs together, do some screwing and unscrewing of things, add oil to the car, swap out headlights, I've fixed my dishwasher, installed some mini blinds. But I'd rather not. LOL I have come to learn, I'm pretty lazy. I have a sink that needs the drain thingy replaced because it's chipped and also doesn't go up and down properly, and I know I could do it, because I watched the YouTube video, but I don't really want to, because of having to get down on the floor and mess around under the sink!
Not at all. My ex was a joiner so he was the fixer. Saying that, I tended to be the one that put all the flat pack furniture together, I can change a bulb (I'm not that useless) and have changed the belts in hoovers, but, really I'm not a natural and I'd rather get a professional in than risk making a situation worse.
I’m somewhat handy but DH is much more handy. We just remodeled my daughter’s room with new fixtures, face plates, baseboards and paint.
Exactly! He's happy to do all the handy jobs. I've even "loaned" him to friends occasionally. Currently he's working on back steps for a friend who just moved. He might grumble sometimes, but it's just for show. LOL!
