Hi everyone! So happy to be here hosting a new Hear My Voice themed Mixed Media Challenge. I hope you’ll join me! Not familiar with Hear My Voice? It’s a monthly collaboration by Rachel Jefferies and Lynn Grieveson Designs. Every month, they create rich textures and unique digital artistry using a variety of mediums, giving you everything you need to express your thoughts and feelings through art journaling or mixed media scrapbooking. This challenge is a special space for collectors of Hear My Voice Digital Art to dive into their stash, spark creativity, and connect through shared inspiration. First, let’s congratulate last month’s random winner of a HMV collection @stephc777 This month, we’re exploring the theme of Watching. Watching is the act of observation—whether it’s passive or intentional—and the power dynamics it creates. It can evoke feelings of curiosity, vigilance, protection, or even intrusion. Watching can signify a longing to understand, a need for control, or a sense of connection from a distance. It invites reflection on what is seen versus what is hidden, and how perception shapes reality. Maybe you are watching a favorite show, your kids’ sports, a great movie; whatever you are watching in this season of life makes for great memory keeping. Challenge: This month, we invite you to explore the theme of watching. Create a layout that captures a moment of observation—whether it's you watching someone, someone watching you, or capturing the feeling of being still and taking it all in. Maybe it’s your child staring out the window, your dog watching for squirrels, or you quietly witnessing a beautiful sunset. Here are some ideas that may spark your creativity: "Through Their Eyes" – Scrap a page from the perspective of someone watching you (a child, pet, or loved one). "Caught in the Act" – Capture candid moments where someone was being watched or observed without knowing. "Watching Over You" – Dedicate a layout to a guardian figure, whether real, spiritual, or symbolic. "Window Views" – Document what you’ve seen out a window, literal or metaphorical. "Screens and Scenes" – Highlight moments spent watching something: a favorite show, fireworks, a sunset, or the world go by. "Eyes Wide Open" – Use eye motifs, binoculars, or camera imagery to emphasize the act of watching and noticing. "Then and Now" – Reflect on how you watched someone grow—or how someone watched over you—through different stages of life. "Quiet Observer" – Focus on a time you were on the sidelines, watching a moment unfold without participating. "Watching Time Pass" – Capture seasonal changes, aging, or progress through repeated photos or journaling entries. "Watched and Loved" – Show how being seen, known, and loved by someone else makes moments more meaningful. A few ideas for things to include on your page might be: Binoculars or Glasses – to symbolize focused observation Windows – frames, shutters, or acetate overlays as peek-throughs Cameras – vintage, digital, Polaroid-style Magnifying Glass – “zooming in” on details or emotions TV or Tablet Screens – for watching shows, videos, or livestreams Speech/thought bubbles – for imagined thoughts of the observer or subject Quote strips – “You see me,” “Watching the world go by,” “Through your eyes” Checklists – “What I noticed,” “What I saw,” “What I felt” Polaroid frames – layered or staggered for a “caught in the moment” look Photo strips – like film reels or security cam captures Blurry/Zoomed Photos – for a voyeuristic or mysterious vibe My page is about going to see The Savannah Bananas with my son and his family this past weekend. It was so fun and we made great memories!
