It is very hard to find anything to use when scrapping Jewish Holidays, Rosh Hashanah, Chanukah and Passover. We need more please Designers please
Just to help out the non-Jewish designers... what kinds of things would you use in these types of kits? Would word art be helpful and then just some generic type elements that are in the same color scheme? If yes, to word art, what kind of things would be helpful for word art beyond the obvious names of holidays etc. (please forgive my ignorance when asking these questions)... but would you use word bits if they were written in Hebrew? Are there song lyrics associated with each holiday like I think of for Christmas? What kind of elements too? Also, seems like almost all of the Jewish holiday kits that I've seen are blue and silver color schemes... is that preferred for you or do other colors represent those holidays to you? I'm not a designer, but I would be nervous creating a kit for Jewish holidays for fear of adding the wrong thing, or scanning something to include and having it be offensive, ya know? Maybe that's why there aren't more kits? Like I see the Jewish holidays on my calendar and know there are Jewish people here and I want to say Happy "insert holiday" but not all religious holidays are happy ones, ya know? And again I don't want to offend. So maybe if you provide some insight on what goodies you'd like to see, you'll get your wish.
Very good comments and questions. The holidays I was thinking of and the general Jewish themes would include Rosh Hashanah ( fall holiday and considered part of thr High Holy days ). It is the Jewish new year. It is a happy holiday. Where families gather and go to synagogue We make a round challah and eat sweet things for a sweet new year. We dip apples in honey. Pomegranates are also part of thr holiday. Yom Kippur is the solemn holiday where we fast and say we are sorry for anything’s we did wrong it follows Rosh Hashanah. Also at both holidays the blow the shofar. Which is a horn from a ram Other general Jewish symbols would be a braided challah, a wine up that we call a kiddush cup and 2 candlesticks with white chandles these are used every Friday night for the beginning of Shabbat ( the sabbath ) Passover is a spring holiday and a special famiky gathering and dinner with a prayer book called a Haggadah where the story of the exodus is told. There are symbols of things in a special plate called a Seder plate. They include a roasted egg, a lamb shank , parsley , horseradish and something called charoset which is chopped up nuts and apples to resemble the mortar the Jewish slaves had to use in Egypt Blue and white are the colors of the Israeli flag but the collections don’t need to be in those colors. I am certainly not on expert on all things Jewish and maybe someone else will have some ideas. I do appreciate your interest and reaching out and yes I imagine designers who aren’t Jewish or don’t have friends or family who are may not be familiar with what to design. There are other scrapbookingnsites that do have something’s for reference , googling about the different holidays including Shabbat would be a resource as well as images and clip art and Etsy. Hope this is helpful. And thanks again for the response to my post
@bjc I presume you have this kit in your stash already? https://the-lilypad.com/store/Eight-Nights-of-Hanukkah-Bundle.html
Are there any special words that are used? greetings? games? I'm thinking beyond the regular ones we see in and around the holidays.
I agree. It would be hard to be a designer that isn't Jewish even with Google searches, to truly know what to include or omit. Or special colors and words/sayings that should be included too.
Yup i do. And have used it over and over again. And there are other holidays that are more important than Chanukah. Thanks for making sure I knew about this collection
Maybe it's just me, but as a previous designer, I don't often like to go look at other's designer's product for ideas, always for fear of "copying" ideas because now they "sit in my head" if that makes sense. I think most designers want the customers input on colors, words and sayings, element ideas versus that option.
I understand but I did give ideas and people can ask others as well and if you google images for the different holidays you can get ideas
Well as a designer I know I can't go, don't like to go, deeper in a theme unless I know it well or at least feels pretty familiar with and since I have no experience with Jewish beliefs, ceremonials and holidays etc... it is definitely not something I would wander in. I just feel like I would indeed just grab ideas from Google without really knowing what they are and I don't like that. Knowing something at least a bit impacts our creativity, or without talking for eveyrone, my creativity, therefore I never felt confident to tackle the theme. I didn't even tackle anything too religious outside Christmas because for me it's just a family occasion, offering and receiving gifts more than it is a religious tradition really. Maybe @Rachel Etrog would be more at ease with this but I know she is busy. Maybe some day? I tried to include some bits and pieces in my December Days kit but again, I didn't want to go to far because of my lack of knowledge. You see? Even then it is still about Hannukkah only so not what you are looking for. Sorry. https://the-lilypad.com/store/december-days-kit.html I'm sorry I can't be of much help with this.
I had some Jewish holidays collections when I was at TDP, I can re-upload them here to the store and also make a new ones if there is an interest.
