Hi everyone! So happy to be here hosting a new Hear My Voice themed Mixed Media Challenge. I hope you’ll join me!

Not familiar with Hear My Voice? It’s a monthly collaboration by Rachel Jefferies and Lynn Grieveson Designs. Every month, they create rich textures and unique digital artistry using a variety of mediums, giving you everything you need to express your thoughts and feelings through art journaling or mixed media scrapbooking. This challenge is a special space for collectors of Hear My Voice Digital Art to dive into their stash, spark creativity, and connect through shared inspiration.

First, let’s congratulate last month’s random winner of a HMV collection, @jagruti patel

This month, we’re exploring the theme of Renewing. Renewing is the quiet revolution within us — the moment we choose growth over comfort, healing over hiding. It’s not always loud or dramatic; sometimes, it’s as simple as waking up and deciding to begin again. Whether it’s mending a broken path, rediscovering a long-lost passion, or shedding what no longer serves us, renewal is both a return and a rebirth — a reminder that even in the mess, we’re allowed to bloom.

In nature, Spring is a season of renewal, when the earth seems to wake from its long winter sleep. Fresh green shoots break through the soil, and blossoms unfurl with vibrant color, reminding us that life is always ready to begin again. In the soft breezes and warming sunlight, there’s a quiet encouragement to let go of the old and embrace new beginnings. Spring invites us to breathe deeply, dream boldly, and grow.

    Challenge:
This month, we invite you to explore the theme of renewing. Maybe something within yourself or a time in your life, or maybe the feeling of renewal in the spring months when nature comes alive again.

Here are some ideas that may spark your creativity:
The Timeline Spread – Create a linear or circular timeline of how you’ve renewed over a period of time (months, seasons, years, or emotionally).
The “Shedding Layers” Page – Use torn paper, fabric scraps, or layered transparency to reflect things you’ve let go of.
Rebirth in Color – Choose a before/after color palette: dull to vibrant, dark to soft — use paint swatches, markers, fabric, or washi tape to build a visual transformation.
“Patchwork of Progress” Collage – Cut different scraps, words, or textures into quilt squares that represent parts of your healing or renewal journey.
Pocket of Possibilities – Add a small paper pocket with dreams, intentions, or affirmations written on mini tags or scrolls inside.

A few ideas for things to include on your page might be:
    Before & After Photos – A visual transformation: a space you’ve cleaned, a plant you’ve revived, a selfie from a different time.
Pressed Leaves or Flowers – Especially ones from springtime or from places that felt healing.
Torn Paper Edges – Symbolizing shedding layers, and building from what's been broken.
Watercolor Washes – Soft gradients that represent emotional transitions.
Sunrise/Sunset Imagery – The perfect metaphor for endings and beginnings.
Threads, embroidery, or stitches — literal mending imagery

I can't wait to see what you create!!

My page is all about the excitement I feel in the spring when my flower beds come back to life. Letting go of the old and letting in the new also renews my spirit.

@Rachel Jefferies created this beautiful page using a Template from HMV 31 Watching, Elements from HMV Discovering
"My theme and journaling is all based on how life feels like a balancing act and guilt is always being carried but there's one time of the day when I am always in control and i've gotten into a little habit of gifting myself 'time'. Even if it's just a few moments, and I like to post little IG Stories to remind myself of those moments. It makes a big difference to the set up of my day, a special gift to myself and an opportunity to re-set before the next challenge! It's my little time for a mini renewal xx"

I chose to do a collage of renewal items. Renewal says to me new blooms and growth.

Thank you for the challenge. This challenge - and the latest HMV kit - hit a little too close. Renewal is often thought of as something joyfuyl and positive, something filled with excitement and the promise of the new. But for something to renew, that something must expire first. Some endings are beautiful, while some are not. Change always brings doubt and uncertainty... The darkest before dawn.... that's where I find myself at the moment. I know that renewal is right around the corner, but for the moment, all I can see is decisions that need making.

Funny...I had just created a layout about renewing...not that long ago...But my journey has changed yet again since then...My struggles are definitely real...but the idea of renewing seems like a universal theme,really...We must constantly renew to grow,to learn,to be happy...to succeed...etc...I definitely have come a long way in the 2 years since my beloved Ray has passed away...It will be 2 years on June 9th...I find it hard to believe that 2 years has gone by so fast...But I guess that happens a bit as we get older,I think and when you are struggling with health issues and personal issues...time really does seem to go by faster than you realize...Days just seem to blur into days and then weeks and then before you know it,months has passed...but in my heart there are days when it feels like just yesterday,I was there in a wheel chair holding his hand in the hospital where he passed away...It evokes sad memories of course, but it also evokes personal growth in me...There was a time when I could not talk about those terrible times without crying endlessly...but I have grown in my acceptance and understanding of myself, that I can talk about it now & not react as badly as I once did...I still cry sometimes, but not like I did & it feels different now...I did not believe anyone when they told me that I would someday arrive here in my grief process...But,it took almost 2 years to be able to believe in myself again...I mean to believe that I deserve happiness again and that it is O.K. to remember and not feel guilty that I don't want to or need to cry as much as I used to and that it is OK that I want/need...to find some new kind of happiness for myself for my own mental health and well being...I felt extremely guilty about his death...and thought I deserved to be unhappy...But,with a lot of help and soul searching,I have come to realize, that he would not have wanted me to be sad forever, knowing how that would take a terrible toll on me...In his life,he wanted nothing but happiness for me and for us...and for everyone he knew and cared about...So,I am in search of my own happiness again...It is much different now without him...I may be moving at a "turtle's" pace...but I do believe...I am moving in the right direction...

I can't believe we're already in to June. Most of this is from the Becoming collection, but a few pieces thrown in from Believing and Renewing.
