Happy International Museums Day! I love museums of all kinds. The last one I went to was the North Carolina Maritime Museum. Thanks to my son, we don't go anywhere that we don't visit a local museum of some kind. I think on our last vacation we visited 4 or 5 of them. He really wants to make a trip to the National WWII museum in New Orleans. Maybe someday lol Do you like museums? Do you have a favorite? Is there one you'd love to visit?
Since I live just outside of DC, I’m a fan of the Smithsonian museums, although it’s been a number of years since my last visit.
I love museums too! I don't know that I have a favorite - maybe the African American History museum in DC? My son and I took a trip there last fall and that was one I had never been to before. I loved it! We also visited the Holocaust Museum, Natural History Museum, and Air & Space Museum. I also really loved the WWII Museum in New Orleans, definitely worth a visit!
History is one of my hobbies. I love museums - always have. We would often visit one for my birthday when I was a child and teen. My favourites are the working museums and the history experience days they run. One of my husband's uni friends is the manager of a museum that used to be 1/2 way to my parents house before they moved locally. We would stop and visit him on the way home at closing time and he'd give us and the children a private tour and get them to test out his hands on history experiences for his education room - there was always a new one with a new exhibition each time we visited. One visit he took us to see all the off display embroideries in their draws - so beautiful and fascinating. A treasured experience.
Do you like museums? I do like Museums.. Natural History and Historical ones are really great. Do you have a favorite? One of my favorites is the Titanic Museum in Belfast. Is there one you'd love to visit? I would love to revisit the Smithsonian Museums and generally I am drawn to historical ones so when we go somewhere and there is one, I am drawn to it!
@Memaw2Wm and @cfile I looked up Smithsonian and found two walk through tour videos. I'll check them out later. It will be interesting seeing some US history, particularly as I'm rather unlikely to ever fly across to visit them in person. and
Do you like museums? I do. Back in the before times, we used to take advantage of the Museums On Us promo through our bank to visit the local science museums almost monthly Do you have a favorite? I basically grew up at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) in Fort Lauderdale. It's grown A LOT since I was a kid and my favorite new exhibit is the river otters with the floor-to-ceiling glass. They get their big yard outside and I get to watch them from the comfort of the air conditioning. I'm also partial to Stranahan House around the corner. It's a local history museum and a friend of mine was the boss there for years. She joke-promised that if I referred enough people, she'd give me a special tour of the museum and let me bring my large-format camera. Each docent highlights different details on their tours so I always learn something new every time we visit. (They also have some cool events there. The Peter Pan party is my favorite.) Is there one you'd love to visit? So many. I definitely want to take my little space-obsessed mini me to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum. There's also the Frost Museum in Miami that is supposed to be unbelievable
I do like museums. My favorite are art museums. I'd really love to go see the MoMA in NYC sometime. I've been pestering my husband to take me there on a road trip. Lol.
I like museums, but we don't visit very often, now that the kids are grown. I also love science centers (are they kind of like a museum?). My favourite is the Royal Tyrrell Museum (everything you ever wanted to know about dinosaurs) in the Badlands of Alberta.
I love museums! We usually visit at least one on vacation and my family accuses me of trying to read ALL the info (as if that's a bad thing!)! My favorites are MoMA in NYC, the Broad in LA, the La Brea Tarpits in LA and the Musee d'Orsay in Paris. And all the Smithsonians (we lived in DC for 10 years so we visited them often). I also love the mummies and Egyptian artifacts at the British museum but I know that's a bit controversial for various reasons these days). I'm looking forward to the Korean National Museum when we visit there this summer.
Natural History (the bones!!!) and American History are my fav Smithsonian. I love sitting in that trolley and pretending we're rolling down the DC streets.
Do you like museums? Not really Do you have a favorite? I went to a fun one recently with my son’s school class and it was all about imaginative play which was awesome. Is there one you'd love to visit? Nope
Do you like museums? Yes, especially smaller ones that focus on a subject pertaining to the area. Do you have a favorite? Armstrong Air & Space Museum located right here in the town I live in. I'm enamored with space and this museum is all things space as well as the life of Neil Armstrong, First Man on The Moon. (Fun fact: Neil was in the high school band and a photo of the band from his senior yearbook is displayed... my mom is in the photo, she was a freshman) Is there one you'd love to visit? Whatever museum that is on the tour I'm taking next so constantly changing. The last museum I visited was the JFK Museum in Hyannis, Massachusetts. I also saw the Sandwich Glass Museum and a small museum display at the Cap Cod National Seashore on my trip last fall. My trip next month will include several museums in South Dakota (Black Hills) and one in Iowa. A trip to Vermont later this year will include several museums including an outdoor museum, Shelburne Museum. My other trip this year will include a stop at the National Civil War Museum before heading to Canada. A stop at the Boott Cotton Mills Museum and Hershey's Chocolate World highlight the trip home. The only Smithsonian I've been to was Air & Space (gee, I wonder why). I was with my Dad and back in 1996 they had an area where you could watch the newsreels that were shown before movie back in the 40's/50's. Dad and I saw one about the Battle of Leyte Gulf so he pressed the button to watch it. We were watching it intensely and all of a sudden I heard a voice say "that's when he died" and I immediately knew why my dad said that. His older brother was killed during that battle when the ship he was on trying to fight the fire on the USS Princeton was hit with the debris from the explosions happening on the Princeton. 653 of the 1300 men on the Birmingham were killed with one of them being my uncle.
Do you like museums? Yes, I do. We usually visit a few museums on every trip we take. Do you have a favorite? Quite a few! My fave art museums are the Musee d'Orsay, the Van Gogh Museum and the McMichael collection. For history - the British Museum, the Egyptian museum, the Royal Tyrrell Museum. I love to visit some of the archaeological sites or the social history sites when we are away. We visited the remains of a Roman villa in Sicily that had the most amazing mosaics we have every seen - Villa Casale. The museum which made the biggest and most lasting impression on me was a visit to Dachau when I was 19. Is there one you'd love to visit? I would love to see the Book of Kells in Dublin.
I very much appreciate museums, but just realized I've visited very few this decade. Previously, while homeschooling my kids, we visited many! My favorite then was the Science Museum in Richmond. We had a lot of fun there, visiting often. One winter, my oldest attended a drama camp in Richmond and my two younger kids and I visited the Science Museum every day, along with the Children's Museum next door.
My youngest would love to live closer to DC! We aren't that far, but thinking about driving there makes me a little twitchy lol
My youngest would absolutely love to visit all those places, especially the Holocaust Museum and we for sure need to make the trip to New Orleans one day!
History is my youngest son's favorite thing ever. He hopes to be a History professor some day. I wish we had one that he could work at closer to us. That would be a dream job for him.
Oh wow! I bet the Titanic Museum is great!! My son is drawn to all the historical ones, no matter how small we will always stop for one!
