Ughhhhhh, I’ve organized so well that I can’t find where I put my replacement filter die the refrigerator.

Do you put things away this effectively? What steps do you take to find it? I even asked myself, “if I was Esther, where would I have put this?”

For the record, that line of thought did not help me.

That definitely happens to me occasionally. It's very frustrating! Sometimes I find it in the 5th place I've looked, and other times I don't come across it for months when I'm looking for something else! I hope your filter shows up!

I do that all the time! I say to myself, I'm going to put this where I won't loose it, and then forget where I put it. Drives me crazy, lol.

It's in a drawer close to the fridge under a piece of paper. [Channeling my inner psychic]

Our fridge filters go in the cupboard above the fridge (which means me at 5'2" have to pull out the stool & climb up to find them!) We're a "everything has a place" type of home- but I swear where I think stuff should go vs my husband is vastly different! Usually it's him that can't find something and it's usually exactly where I told him it was! lol

I try to organize as much as I can b/c I forget where I put things, even with trying hard to be consistent and organized. Sometimes it takes hours for the light bulb to go off and I suddenly remember where I put something, thinking it would be easy to remember. Other times I am searching for something and then I come across something else that I hadn't been able to find for quite awhile LOL.

In my mind it was a logical place where I put it there… my husband laughed at me when he got home and then for some weird reason that reminded more of where I put it….

My take away from this…. Have my husband laugh at me and call me weird.

Happens to me all the time. Usually I give up and then find it when I'm looking for something totally different.

I’ve been looking for all kinds of stuff during this move. In fact today I found the case of tuna fish I’ve been looking for in a box the movers labeled room #4 misc. :giggle

Every box I open has a surprise or two in there for me. We still have lots to unpack and find a place for and hopefully I‘lol remember where that place is when I need it.

I just got the "order new filter" message from our fridge today too. I actually knew that my hubby had purchased a multi-pack last time, so I made sure to find them before he orders more. Lol. I put mine in the cabinet above the oven hood which is rather dumb because there's a cabinet above the fridge too, but I can't reach up there without dragging over a chair and I can reach the other cabinet. Hope you find yours.

Mom brain is real :doh34For me it usually means spacing appointments! On Friday alone I spaced a PTA meeting and I had to pick up my niece at the airport 35 minutes away - I looked at the clock five minutes before I was supposed to be there! And yes, both things were on my calendar which I looked at multiple times throughout the day. UGH.

After missing multiple Monday appointments I no longer make appointments on Mondays.

I sometimes have trouble finding things I put in a "safe place" ... my rule is that if I can't find it after looking in 3 places I won't, so I stop looking. Eventually it will turn up, as others have said when I'm looking for the next thing. Once I find it I remember why I put it there and think "DUH!"

    So frustrating!

I would never misplace anything if this was the solution in our house.
I usually think 'what does this do or go with?' & put it near the thing, that said the filters for the air purifier eluded me for a week given there's no cupboards near that thing & I think I just stashed them where I could make them fit because they're pretty big.
I may be dumb or fridges are different here but I didn't know they had changeable filters. (In those US 'Find me a beach /country home' shows there's always an empty house with a fridge in it but it's the norm for Aussies to move house, fridge & all, even if renting). Anyway usually we just leave some bicarb or lemon or vanilla stuff in the fridge & paper towels in the veggie drawers. Where would I look for a filter thingy on a fridge? (If it's behind it on the outside, it can stay there, that things too massive & heavy to move unless moving or reno'ing)

@bellbird The filters are generally on the water line to filter the water for the ice maker and/or water dispenser. On our old fridge it was external on the back of the fridge so we did have to roll it out to change it. We did it very rarely, like once every few years. Our current fridge has a little door in the “ceiling” of the inside of the fridge. Much easier, which is a good thing because it beeps very aggressively if we don’t change it right away (about every six months).

I forgot to answer the question what I do when I can't find something. I guess I'm a bit weird, but I tell the ghosts to put it back, cuz I need it. They usually do. :agree

I have an online todo program that is on my laptop & phone - Remember The Milk. I have an entry in there that I note when I last changed the filter, the price I paid and where I put the extra one if I ended up buying two. I set the "due date" for 6 months from the filter install date. I do this for our furnace filter as well. I will say that I now have 2 entries for my fridge filter that are identical because I accidentally marked it as complete one time (rather than resetting the due date) and lost all the history lol Hormone related brain fog is real.
