Today is Teflon Day. Super exciting, huh It was accidentally invented on this day in 1938, and there aren't really many more details. But that's not really why I'm here anyway haha. It just reminded me that I've been in the market for a new set of pots and pans. Mine are old, worn out, and are definitely no longer "non-stick". So I'm wondering.... Do you have a set of pots and pans that you love? Is there a material that you love? Ceramic, stainless, cast iron?
We ruined ours early in our marriage by dishwashering, eek! Haven’t replaced yet but desperately need too. Only the smallest is still nonstick. I’ll be watching this thread for recommendations!!
My friend bought me some ninja pots and pans two years ago and I freaking love them.. they don't scratch and can be put in oven up to 500 degrees and wash easy and are non stick
DH likes stainless steel (we buy random brands off Amazon) but they always look dirty to me unless I scrub them with steel wool. I have an egg pan I love but the rubber handle cover came off which I don’t love so the handle type is something to consider when buying. A different pan’s handle comes unscrewed and uses a tip other than Phillips and flat which drives me crazy. The The same pan has a lid that’s impossible to clean (it has a tiny crevice that food gets stuck in all the time) so that’s something else to consider when buying. Good luck!
I have Wearever stainless steel... (Then I have a lot of the stainless steel Cuisinart pans from my Dad and one Cuisinart with the non-stick surface and one Teflon non stick fry pan and one huge non-stick Wearever frying pan... of course the aluminum spaghetti pot too with the strainer and a few huge stainless steel huge stock pots. My expensive and huge pots are from my Dad as he and his friend would get together in their chef coats and hats and make huge stock pots of soup and they would freeze a lot plus make lots of food for the Moose Lodge. After Dad passed away, I inherited all his kitchen goodies and gave most of my stuff to the goodwill.)
I just recently (like last month) bought a cast iron pan, so I've been playing with that a little bit. It's starting to get "seasoned" so it's non-stick mostly now and I've been making frittatas in it so they start on the stovetop and then go in the oven to finish which is fun. Currently my best teflon egg pan is an Amazon basics pan that seems to be lasting way longer than any other brand I've purchased, so that's fun and I got it on a crazy good deal on Prime day a few years ago. I tried a ceramic non-stick pan, but that didn't seem to work as well for me, so I went back to Teflon.
We have two Teflon pans that DH replaces as soon as they get the slightest scratch (because of the coating being toxic if released into your food). We have a Paderno stainless steel set of pots and pans we bought at Canadian Tire a few years ago for a great price that we use for most things. DH has a very well seasoned 8 inch cast iron pan that we both love and we're thinking of getting cast iron in larger sizes because they can go from stove top to oven safely. The only issue is properly seasoning them which takes a bit of work I'm told. And we have a huge spaghetti pot (Le Cook's Ware) that we bought when we first moved in together that is still in great shape. I don't think you can get Le Cook's Ware pots and pans anymore.
We have a great set of Cuisinart stainless steel pots and pans in our house. We've had them for years and put them through a lot of use and they still look brand new! We got stainless steel because teflon can be toxic to pet birds and although my conures passed after 18 years with me, I hope to get another one someday!
Most of my pots and pans are Revere Ware stainless steel that I've had for 30+ years. I do have two HexClad frying pans that I really love.
I have looked at a lot of pots and pans, but I don't think I've looked at the Ninja ones. I'll have to do that. I love most all Ninja products!
That makes me think that maybe I should raid my mom's kitchen. She doesn't cook anymore and has tons of stuff. I'll bet there are some good ones in there. I already claimed her KitchenAid Mixer
I have a small cast iron that I love. I've been thinking about getting a bigger one. I've heard a lot of people say the ceramic hasn't worked as well for them.
I have a small cast iron that I love and use for a lot, but I think it's the taking the time for seasoning is what's held me back from getting a larger one.
I've been seriously debating stainless steel. One of my good friends loves hers. I missed a great deal on a whole set a while back and I'm kicking myself for it!
Re the KitchenAid Mixer.. My Dad had the White Diamond 75th Anniversary edition and also had the bowl engraved with his name on the 75th edition etching. There is an extra bowl so I don't use the etched one. I have it now and use it. I love it, except it does not tip up... it is with the bowl lifter .. the expensive one LOL
The one I got from my mom's has the bowl lifter. So cool that he had the bowl engraved with his name!
