Today is National Hot Chicken Day!

So, I actually stumbled across this and love the story behind it - According to checkiday.com:
Thornton Prince III is credited for creating hot chicken at the Bar-B-Que Chicken Shack—now Prince's Hot Chicken Shack—in Nashville, Tennessee. According to lore, Thornton Prince, known for being a womanizer, came home to his girlfriend late one Saturday night in the 1930s. She suspected he had been canoodling with another woman, and the next morning prepared him a breakfast of extra spicy chicken as a form of payback. He didn't know the chicken was hot until he started eating it, but the hot peppers-laden chicken wasn't off-putting, and instead of recoiling, he asked for more. Prince liked the hot chicken so much that he dialed in a recipe with his brothers and soon opened a restaurant to sell it at.

I love spicy chicken! I prefer it over any other!

Have you heard that story before?
    Do you like hot chicken?
Do you have a favorite hot chicken dish or sandwich?

When I saw the words hot chicken I was thinking totally different to be honest. What I think of as hot chicken to most people would be rotisserie chicken

I'd never heard the story before & never had hot chicken either - I'm not one for spice or heat so it's not a surprise

When I read the title, I thought it was more like the temperature, not the spice. I love rotisserie chicken!

no idea if i've had it either but a rotisserie chkn doesn't last long around here and is such a help for many more extravagant quick meals!

I thought the title meant temperature hot too. I would refer to that more as spicy chicken, but I definitely do love a good spicy chicken sandwich and so does my hubby, although sometimes it gives him heartburn. Whoops. I hadn't heard that story before... funny that it didn't have the intended effect.

I love spicy things so I like some Nashville hot chicken. Traditionally it's served with pickles, which are not my favorite, and some places even use pickle juice in their prep. We went somewhere once in 2018 or 2019 that had FANTASTIC chicken; I ordered something else and ended up begging my husband to share with me.

All this to say: it's hit or miss for me but I'd definitely stay home with anyone who made it the way I like :D

    Do you like hot chicken?
Yes but I’m a wimp so I can’t do too much spice.

Do you have a favorite hot chicken dish or sandwich?
I have a knockoff Wingers recipe that’s Franks hot sauce and brown sugar.

My youngest complains every time he gets a pickle on a chicken sandwich. He always says "who in the world thought it was a good idea to put a pickle on chicken?" lol

Here's the recipe if you want to try it. I used it with breaded chicken baked in the oven (I think? It's been awhile) but I would use it with air fryer breaded chicken chunks now (might need to tonight!).

    Winger's Sticky Fingers
    For the sauce:
1/3 c. Franks Hot Sauce (It has to be Franks Hot Sauce... no other sauce will taste as good)
    1 1/2 c. brown sugar
    1 Tbsp. water

Heat up hot sauce, brown sugar and water in a saucepot until all the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temp before adding to wings OR prepare ahead of time and refrigerate. The wings turn out best if you don't pour warm sauce over them. You want it nice and thick.

    For the Sticky Fingers:
    1 c. oil
1 pkg. frozen breaded chicken tenders

In a frying pan, heat oil and cook chicken tenders until crispy and warm. Dip each piece of chicken in the sauce so it is completely covered and move to serving plate, pour any remaining sauce over the chicken.
Serve with ranch or blue cheese dressing.
*If you want to go a little lighter you can also bake the chicken tenders instead of frying, they still taste really good.

    My alternate sauce: 1/3 c Franks, 2/3 c brown sugar, 1 T water

I have never heard that story before but it sure backfired didnt it?

I love me some hot chicken! It has to have pickles on it. I think my favorite spicy chicken sandwhich has to be from Popeye's. We also have a chain in Detroit called Chicken Shack and they also have a very good chicken sandwhich for $5 too. They told me their recipe for their spicy mayo. Are you ready for it? It's buffalo sauce mixed with mayo. That's it and it is great! I do think Popeyes has better breading on their chicken tho.
