I like positive reinforcement and one of the things I say a lot is "silver lining!", meaning that with any negative or bad thing, there is something positive to it. For instance, we were joking around about our thin hair (my daughter and I) and I said - silver lining...at least our hair dries quickly, to which we both agreed and laughed.
I also say "crap" a lot but at least its nicer than saying "f*ck" or "sh*t" LOL. I guess I could say "darn" but that doesn't seem to have enough oomph to it.
Most of my favorite quotes and phrases are very sweary lol Note my tag line over there <--- I've used FAFO a lot lately!! I have a tendency to tell others this one often - "Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but gets you nowhere." Also, "What other people think of me is none of my business.” - Eleanor Roosevelt
A place for everything & everything in its place was a saying my grandmother said often. She was a minimalist & clean by nature hence had a place for everything & knew where it was at all times.....the rest of her family doesn't quite believe in that (but really should, would make everyone's life easier)
When hubby is looking for something that it right in front of him. "If it were a snake it would have bitten you!". "Nice chat" when everyone is around me but on their devices. Crap is also a favourite, along with crapshoot. "pros and cons" meaning that we often look forward to the pros of life's next stage but it comes with a new set of cons that we didn't anticipate.
A recent favorite I've been using is "cool, cool, cool" when I ask my hubby a question and he's distracted by his phone and doesn't even respond. Otherwise I can't think of anything off the top of my head that I say often. Except probably swearing. Whoops. Don't tell my Mom.
Things happen for a reason.. that is what I use a lot... (I may not know the reason at the time, but usually makes itself known )
I'm big on non cursing words - crap, or turd are my go to words. I'm also a silver lining girl like Rae. I used to have the Pollyanna tag line, lol! (I'm always looking on the positive side, try to be cherry, etc.) I use ohmyword a lot, lol! I can't stand... Just Sayin', it absolutely drives me nuts. I like FAFO... but I wouldn't use it myself.
I curse A LOT. I use s*** and f*** a lot - I think it feels not as bad to curse in another language than your own. S*** is probably my most used curse word - along with the Swedish word for c***. You see ... you don't want to bring me to church. One expression I use a lot is "Upp som en sol, ner som en pannkaka" (Up like a sun, down like a pancake) - used when you had great intentions and then fail spectacularly. Also we often greet each other with Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Easter and so on ... when it's not Christmas, New Year's or Easter.
LOL. Love all of this! To quote Mark Twain: “Under certain circumstances, profanity provides a relief denied even to prayer."
I saw that a lot too. Kind of ties in with my "silver lining". Or that saying about when one door closes another opens.
Oh what a great question. For very long I didn't have any favorite quote, nor used one in particular but quite recently with my kyudo (Japanese archery) tour guide training adventures I fell in love with this one by the kyudo master Kenzo AWA: “In the dojo, aim for truth. At home, aim for harmony. At work, aim for progress. Among friends, aim for trust. In the world, aim for sincerity.” Kenzo AWA 1880/1939 - kyudo master aka The Bow Saint
I recently read an article in a health email (probably WebMD) stating you get more benefits from exercising if you swear while doing it, tanteva. I've been saying "Let's Get Right Down to the Real Nitty Gritty" a lot recently, but also, "Life's Too Short". I have a million of them, and if I had any skill at making WA I'd open a store here. I would never ever say, "Things Happen for a Reason."
In Dutch...."komt wel goed schatje". Meaning "It's going to be okay sweetie". And *shizzle* instead of s**t. I have a 3 yo nephew who repeats words effortlessly, so I have to watch my words around him.
One of my favorite quotes and sort of my life slogan is from the movie Robots where Mr. Bigweld says, "See a need, fill a need." Said it to my kids all the time after we saw it. Garbage can overflowing with paper towels in the women's restroom at work? Smash that sucker down (safely, of course), so other people can keep using it. Put stuff away. Do dishes for your roommates. Help someone with an armload of stuff open a door. Bird feeder empty, fill it up. My fake cuss word has always been "fudgsicle snot."
