There's been chatter about getting off social media or decreasing the time you invest in it.

But, are you like me...do you go down the rabbit hole? Do you hate wasting your time? Or do you enjoy and fully immerse yourself in it?

Which ones do you love and which do you hate or do you avoid them all?

FB so I can stalk my extended family and Instagram ... where I also stalk my family and follow creators.

I have SnapChat downloaded, but only use it for silly selfies and that's rarely. No interest in downloading/using TikTok.

I also belong to a couple of message boards that were originally scrap-related, but now are mostly "chat with friends" boards.

I definitely go down the rabbit hole with Youtube and Tiktok and I thoroughly enjoy it. I don't work though which means I have a lot of free time so I can easily browse for an hour or two and then get on with my day, having time for everything I need to do.

I have a variety of interests on Youtube - photography, PS/editing, food, fashion, hair/skincare, health, jewelry design, dogs...to name a few subjects.

Tiktok I mostly follow comedy stuff - I'm hooked on Walmart Amy Adams (she hilariously tries to recreate dance moves with her husband). They always make me laugh. I watch a lot of videos about fashion and styling. I don't necessarily follow all fashion advice but I enjoy knowing about it and seeing if I can tweak my wardrobe.

Yes, me too...Facebook. That is such an extension of my day-to-day life that I couldn't imagine not being on it.

I basically use it for checking in where and when I have time. Sharing and Promoting the things I am interested in etc.
my life is pretty busy with the workload I have and daily life, so I don't get too invested in socials. Every now and then, on a long weekend I might let myself scroll a little longer than normal.

It is interesting to me how many people get wrapped up in sitting on the socials for hours and hours. Or the ones that just hate socials and are dead set against them.

    But ....

I spend too much time mindlessly scrolling Facebook and I kinda hate it but without it, I feel like i don't know what's going on in the world. My favorite social is Instagram because I have carefully curated my feed to just scrapping and photography.

I'm in the middle. I can get lost, but then I can also just shut it off. That kinda goes for any of them. I'm simple. lol!

I don’t usually go down a rabbit hole unless it Pinterest.

I can get on a soapbox so I’ll stop with my above answer.

I really only spend time on IG and occasionally Pinterest when I'm looking for something specific. I do waste way too much time though so it's better if I just stay away entirely!

Facebook and Instagram for me. Facebook is mainly for family and some friends. And, since I only have about 200 friends, my feed doesn't get overwhelming. I use Instagram to follow some reality TV people (some are influencers but I just skip through the ads since I only use it on the computer... you can skip the videos easily), some family, and a few craft accounts (only 62 accounts, so again it isn't overwhelming). If the ones that influence post too many of those posts, I unfollow them.

As for YouTube, I just watch videos of the channels I subscribe to and I don't necessarily watch every video they put out. I've gotten into "lawtube" videos and some cases just don't interest me so I don't watch them. However, I have spent a lot of time the last 10 days watching videos on Affinity since I'm learning the program.

Don't have any other SM nor do I want it.

I do not like social media too much, but I do like seeing crafty things and food related things! But I do doom scroll and I dislike it! I am on Instragram mostly. I want to get rid of it, but fear I will miss out!

I am not a great fan of social media but do have Facebook which I mainly use for our town's community page to keep an eye on events coming up. I do have to be careful I do not waste time looking at the advertisement and other things that appear.

After 2 days without social media, I'm actually a bit shocked by how much extra time I have. I knew I used it a lot, but not this much.

My thumb has a life of its own though, it swipes to the second page on my phone (where I had "hid" Instagram to keep me from opening it all the time) all the time. Just to find the spot is empty.

Facebook and Instagram. I haven't had the courage/audacity to download TikTok because I'm just scared it will increase my addcition.

FB is vital to me because this is how I connect with my family. I enjoy posting my Japan life and share with them and my friends, those who are interested in knowing about it lol

Instagram was personal at first but I decided to switch to use it for my design so it's more of a business thing now.

I do go down the rabbit hole. I tend to wake up pretty early... "old" age, I don't know lol... and since I usually can't go back to sleep I sometimes just quietly start to watch reels. But I am trying to lay off those recently because I do think it's a waste of time in my situation. I should be designing and scrapping more instead lol

I spend the most of my social media time on YouTube. I watch travel vlogs, vegan chefs, science communicators, history shows, and current events the most. And I engage in the comment section. And sometimes they inspire me to journal.

Right now, the second most amount of time I'm spending on social media is here at TLP!

And then there's Facebook. I have disliked it more and more over the years. I've always thought it was ugly, practically from the beginning (I joined in January 2009). Worse, over the last several years, it has become more and more ads and suggested pages and junk and less and less from my actual friends and pages I follow. I haven't posted much myself anymore, so I can't blame my friends. But I keep going back because there are some communities and pages I enjoy, and now that I'm trying to curate my Bluesky feed I realize that Facebook has become a place for me to relax and pass those 10 minutes before it's time to leave for work or a few minutes in a waiting room or on a lazy weekend evening. I can't do that at Bluesky yet because the people I've followed over there are all about current events and politics. So it's NOT relaxing. I think it's going to become a great thing though. No ads! And I think the feed is chronological. Facebook stupidly feeds me things like events and friends' posts a day or two too late.

One of my 2024 projects was looking at my Facebook Memories every day, taking screenshots of them, and putting them into my journal. And now, when I (rarely) post, I save those in my journal too. So I'm ready to leave Facebook any time and will be so glad. It's going to be a gradual transition though, as I figure out how to make Bluesky work for me (or maybe something else -- Rachel and Lynn have me looking curiously at Substack this month with their challenges). More and more of my friends are moving.

If anyone wants to join me at Bluesky, I wasn't creative like many others with my username. I'm just myself. https://bsky.app/profile/michelekendzie.bsky.social

Oh! I almost forgot another social media I use: Storygraph. Loving it much more than Goodreads. https://app.thestorygraph.com/profile/michelekendzie

As for Instagram, I haven't posted purposely on there in a couple of years. I have posted there accidentally because I posted on Facebook and used to have a setting that automatically copied it over to IG, but I've changed that. I wouldn't mind looking at IG more often than the approximately every few months that I do but I keep forgetting about it. In my opinion it's not a very good SOCIAL media because it's so hard to read and interact in the comments.

I stopped using Twitter immediately when it changed hands several years ago and completely deleted my account. I've never tried TickTock. I have an account at Reddit but forget about it most of the time and have probably only logged in about twice a year for the last few years.

Anyone remember Google's attempt at social media a long time ago? I was rooting for that one to work out and replace Facebook.

I think that covers all my social media stuff.

I'm mostly on Facebook but do use my personal IG to follow people. I also use IG for sharing my scrapping too. I also use Pinterest for scrapping inspiration & also saving recipes.

FB - I mostly use for CT stuff and to check in on some things going on around me. I'm not a huge fan, but I've learned a lot about some people...typically not for the good lol.
Instagram - I have some favorite follows and I do love to scroll scrappy stuff
TikTok - Probably my biggest time suck, but also my favorite! I go down so many rabbit holes lol. But, the thing I love most about TikTok is its algorithm. It knows me so well! I have gained some really valuable resources from other teachers and some amazing recipes.

Ummm... same! I deleted the Facebook app yesterday to keep me from mindless scrolling through it. It's not the same as it used to be and many of my friends no longer post there (but that could just be a factor of our kids growing up). I still check the site on my computer once or twice a day to see if I'm tagged in anything (one of the designers I work with runs her CT as a fb group). But I'm trying to cut down my time there.

YES!!! My instagram is my happy place! Scrapping, crocheting and Disney lol!
