What's everyone up to this weekend? My son is home for the weekend. You may remember me posting that he made the questionable decision to head back to his apartment very close to the evac zone in Los Angeles during the fires. So, he drove home again this weekend to pick up the stuff he had left here so that it wouldn't all burn up. Fortunately, none of the worst possibilities came to pass. So, we'll go for a nice family dinner tonight with him and our daughter. I've got some memory planning to do and general cleaning and house puttering. What are YOU up to??????
I'm baking a cake for my husband's birthday party. I've been a little obsessed with trying to make a yummy gluten free cake. I'm looking forward to being with most of the family this evening.
I hope it comes out great! My mom been GF since the 80s when it was really hard to find an GF stuff. I'm so glad there are so many good options these days!
@dawnmarch So glad to hear his place is safe. @KarenC Hope you have success with the gluten free cake. I've not had any success yet with that. I'll be heading out shortly for the usual morning walk with Remi (our mini aussie) and then home to get ready to head out for the afternoon at the legion. We go there most Saturdays for perogies/beers for lunch, play a dice game with friends and buy tickets for the meat draws and 50/50. I was fortunate enough to win twice last month but didn't win the big prize, which is called Chase The Ace. How that works is that the name chosen for the 50/50 wins a percentage of the money taken in that day, usually around $150 and then they get to pick a face down card from the pile that has been laid off on the table. Each week a new card is chosen and discarded if its not the ace of spades, so the participant's odds go up each week. Today there are 9 cards left so there is a 1 in 9 chance of picking the ace of spades which is at about $3500. It sure will be great if they call my hubs or myself, or one of our friends. Fingers crossed. Tomorrow we'll have people over for canasta in the afternoon. This week we have a friend from back in BC coming over for a few days to stay with us. I need to get the spare room ready for him. I also need to stock up on groceries too.
I'm currently dealing with an IBS flare up that's kept me up most of the night. Depending on when/if I get sleep will decide what on my to do list gets done before my mum & I make our way to see my grandmother early next week - she's not doing so well so we don't know how much longer the family has with her. I've even noticed how much better it's got just in the last three years I've been GF....to this day I remember my doctor saying "it's expensive & not that great" when I first became GF.
I have spent my whole day helping my youngest daughter clean her apartment that she moves from and we will continue for a few hours tomorrow before we are finished. Not the most exiting weekend, but I love I get to spend time with her!
Oh just the thought of your son taking that risk gets me a bit stressed haha! I have 5 young adult kids, and boy do they stress me out as much as they ever did!! I'm having a low key weekend here at home. Trying to get a few things done, but mostly scrapping and working.
TJ went back to university today. So my youngest and I have been snuggled on the sofa watch a DVD - Captain America The Winter Soldier. The last time I watched it was with her older siblings and she was too young. So when they're away we've been slowly catching her up with the things in the DVD shelves she hasn't watched yet. Guardians of the galaxy is her pick for next time.
There's going to be lots of NFL playoff watching for me! I visited with my mom today and picked up groceries. Tomorrow I need to do a little house cleaning and laundry, and prepare for the super cold temps on Monday and Tuesday.
I've been watching YouTube videos on how to use Affinity Photo today. I'm learning how to use the program. I also scrapped a page in PSP about Ohio's newest senator. I met him in 2017 and my boss had me take a photo of the two of them. Never thought I could say that I had met a Senator (but he was Secretary of State when I met him). Then I actually cooked a good dinner. I have 5 more meals in the refrigerator. Now I'm going to watch football (go Lions!) and work on a latch hook I pulled out the other day that I started many years ago. My eyes are tired from the computer so time to get off for the day.
Congrats on the Chiefs win. I'm an Eagles fan I'll take a rematch of Superbowl 57...just maybe with a different outcome
I didn't get online at all this weekend, it was super low key. Friday evening we had dinner with friends and then played cards. Saturday my hubby went ice fishing in the morning, so I had the quiet house to myself as my youngest son was working. I played in my craft room and used my 3D printer to make some little storage bins, and then the bins needed a shelf to sit on, so I used some scrap wood and built some of those too! I also had an online abstract art class in the afternoon, so that was fun too. Sunday I had to take my car to the shop to drop it off. It's been misbehaving lately and I'm not sure what's going on with it. Boo! Speaking of football, I was sad to see the Lions lose that night. Oh well, maybe next year they can make it to the Superbowl!
