Welcome to the July Muse, this month we are recycling an older muse from 2020. As you can see by the challenge header above, our topic to muse upon this month is cantered around TREES. Trees are such an integral and important part of the world around us so I wanted to explore how they intertwine with our lives in so many different ways. WEEK 3 - BARK, BRANCH AND LEAF This week we will look at creating layouts using various textures and colours from different parts of a tree as inspiration. Do you have a certain type of leaf that you love? is it the texture, the shape or the colour that draws you to it? Or have you found a skeleton leaf and picked it up, marvelling at how beautiful the leaf looked? Ever hugged a tree and pressed your face against it's warm rough (or smooth) bark? Have you seen any trees that have really intricate patterns embedded in their bark? Or what of the colourful lichens and fungi that grow only on certain trees? Ever seen the silhouette of a bare tree branch against the sky and thought how perfect it looked? Nature truly is wonderful and I personally love all the textures that are associated with trees. Actually, I just love textures and trees are a great place to find them. I hosted a nature crafts day a part of our church away weekend. I was encouraging people to explore textures. We did nature prints and took bark rubbings. One of our wonderful designers, Nicole of NBK Design, has also been exploring the textures of bark and trees this month. She has created this fabulous collection and added it to her store last week for us. I used some of those beautiful textures on my page. Stop Press: Nicole has posted in the first reply to this thread a coupon code to get 10% off this pack until the end of the month. See her post below for the code. Your challenge this week is to scrap a layout featuring a branch, bark or leaves..... these can be in any form, like photos, stamps, brushes, papers etc. the MAIN thing I want to see though is TEXTURE. You can have colour or none, what I am wanting to see though is some texture in your layout inspired by our main subjects this week, namely from a branch, bark or leaf. This is an inspirations board created using Pinterest. Maybe some of the images or quotes will inspire you. You may create any style of layout (ie. clean and simple, artsy, pocket style etc.) you wish, with or without a photo. Create any size page you wish. This is for everyone, so have fun and see where the inspiration takes you. If you want all 4 Muses on one page that's perfectly okay or you can make 4 separate pages!! It's totally up to you! Please post your layout to the Art Journaling Gallery HERE prior to Midnight EST 31 July 2024 and then post it in this thread by copying the code (at the right of your gallery image) from the box under "Share BB Code". We will draw a winner at the beginning of next month for a coupon!! You can use any products in The Lilypad store or retired products from current Lilypad designers, (just make sure you follow our gallery guidelines). Looking forward to see your pages everyone!!
Can't wait to see all those Nature Inspired Layouts. And I have a little surprise for you. If you want to get the For Art's Sake #80 - https://the-lilypad.com/store/For-Art-s-Sake-80.html you can use the code: museoftrees10 and you will get only for that product a 10% discount.
I took this while I had these thoughts, walking along the beach in Georgia last month. I grew up on an island and now I live in a landlocked prairie. I miss it so much.
We just spent some time in Arizona... it's such a different kind of beauty. This landscape has so much texture! It seemed like the perfect subject. Thanks for the challenge!
Thank you Angela for hosting and thank you Nicole for the beautiful papers. When I saw the texture theme I knew I wanted to scrap this photo of our raspberry leaves for this challenge:
