Happy March everyone! This year (which is flying by!), our goal for you is to get pages scrapped, use your stash of digital art and if you’d like and have time, practice some fun techniques to build confidence in your mixed media scrapbooking. Each month through 2024 a broad theme will be provided for the challenge and you can interpret these themes as literally or as loosely and abstractly as you wish. If you’d like to learn something specific please inbox Rachel with your suggestion! Last Month's Winner: Thank you for taking part in February, our winner drawn at random is @AnotherAmanda Congratulations!! Keep your eye on your inbox and our participation coupons will be sent soon!! For March, choose one of the themed words from below that resonates with you the most or helps you to get a page scrapped and roll with it! This is a casual challenge and you can interpret these monthly themes as literally or as loosely and abstractly as you wish and put your own spin on it. Here is the list of prompts for this months challenge . . . Trip Oasis Stacked Petite Phenomenal Nine Adventure Good How Tips/Technique/Tutorial: With each challenge, a tip/technique/tutorial will be included. There is no pressure to incorporate the tip/technique/tutorial into your challenge page, the choice is entirely yours. This month I went with petite and used Rachel's Emerge products to create a page about my Megan. She's a beautiful petite little thing at only 5 foot nothing. gallery link for full credits Tip: I love the textures and beautiful edges of Rachel's mixed media papers. She's done all the work for us and these papers make layouts come together easily. Sometimes I want to add my photo to the collaged area, but don't want it to be too close to the edge of the layout and get cut off when printing. A trick I use to remedy this is to duplicate the paper and position the paper edges to the interior of the layout. This creates leading lines and makes a great foundation/focal point area for my photo/cluster. I usually position this gap around the 4" or 8" marks to incorporate the rule of thirds into my layout design. For my layout I started out with the solid paper as my background layer. Then, I added the collage paper. I rotated the collage paper 90 degrees to the right and duplicated it. Next, I moved one layer to the left to show the beautiful collage edge at around the 3.75" mark. I moved the other layer to the right so the edge would create a gap just passed the 4" mark. Then, I added my photo/cluster along the gap. I love how the leading lines of the gap create a focal point and lead the viewers to my photo. Bonus tip: I used the white paint from the kit as a mask to blend my sepia toned photo into a journal card. I resized/cropped the paint to fit on the journal card. Then I clipped my photo to the paint and positioned/resized it to my liking. I then used the down arrow and cycled through the blend modes. I found that the darken mode on the paint layer looked the best for my photo. Sometimes I have to adjust the layer opacity to get the right look, so feel free to play with different blend modes and layer opacities to work with your photo/journal card combo. Challenge Requirements: Create a new page using one of the prompts Use at least 75% of Rachel's Product currently available in her LilyPad shop. Where digital products are used in a hybrid project they must all come from current LilyPad designers, and at least 75% must be Rachel's Product. Upload your layout to the Rachel Jefferies Designs Gallery at the LilyPad with your product credits. For your challenge entry to be counted, you MUST upload your finished layout to this thread. My layout is about an upcoming trip. Lilypad 2024 03 Rj Mm by lm44west posted Mar 26, 2024 at 5:37 PM
I selected the theme Adventure and used the technique, but made my space a little wider so the placement of the mixed media papers would work better. Love how it turned out!
I'd hope to try this technique tip in the future when I am not trying to include so many photos on one page. I was inspired by both Trip & Adventure.
