Hi everyone and welcome to our February Muse Challenge which is all about using limited colour palettes.

    Week 3: Neutrals
This week we are looking at the neutrals palette, the whites, blacks, beiges, creams and browns. But what exactly IS a neutral colour?

In the first instance neutral colours are defined as hues that appear to be without colour and typically will not appear on the colour wheel. Neutral colours do not compete with primary and secondary colours and instead compliment them.

The four neutral hues that are considered to be 'pure' (without any hue undertones) are black, white, brown and grey as they are created by mixing two complementray colors.

All other neutrals are considered to be 'near' neutrals as they have a hue undertone. They are created by combining a pure primary colour with a pure neutral, the resulting tones colours down to such an extreme that they look like they don't have any colour eg. think of light grey, tan, ivory, eggshell etc.

Take a look at the preview below which shows the four 'pure' neutral hues at the bottom and an example of the 'near' neutrals in the colour palettes shown at the top.

    Using Neutral colours:

In the world of interior decoration neutrals colours are popular in creating a versatile background: the neutral complements the other colours in an arrangement and allows the eye to easily flow between focal points.

Likewise, in the world of art, neutral colours are an important component of art, providing the eye with a resting place and providing contrast to the darker colours that are used.

    Challenge Week 3:
Create a layout using pure neutrals and/or near neutrals. The topic/theme of your layout can be about anything you like. :)

    Here is my page:

    Rules for Week 3 Challenge
    • Create a layout using pure neutrals and/or near neutrals. The topic/theme of your layout can be about anything you like.
    • You can either create one layout per week, or use the one quarter of your page to create each week's challenge in, if you would like to go with that idea there is a free template down the bottom that you can download to use. Or create just one layout for one week only, totally your choice.
      • You can create any style of page ie. clean and simple, artsy, pocket style etc,. Your page can be all digital or hybrid. Wherever the inspiration takes you as long as you include TLP products on your page.
      • Please post your layout to the Art Journaling Gallery HERE prior to Midnight EST March 3, 2023 and then post it in this thread by copying the code (at the right of your gallery image) from the box under "Share BB Code".

If you want to work with a divided page template then you are welcome to use some templates I created and available on Dropbox:
    https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/nx2ya9qtf9uqjwrfbv7vs/h?rlkey=ucikrkh36foim4szirsizq0rg&dl=0

We will draw a winner at the beginning of next month for a coupon. Every layout you create is equal to one entry in the random draw. So if you create 1 layout you are entered once, if you create 4 layouts you are entered 4 times.

You can use any products in the Lilypad store or retired products from current Lilypad designers, (just make sure you follow our gallery guidelines).

Looking forward to seeing what you creative ladies make for this week! :byay
