I finished reading this book two days ago. All I can say without sharing anything about the story - this is a real page turner. I could not put it down!
I really enjoyed this one! Spoiler: Thoughts I loved the set up of this novel. There were so many twists and turns (maybe a few too many) that kept me turning the pages. And who can resist a crumbling old mansion? I knew something was up with Mrs. Baker from the beginning. I loved how Kit's story and Leonora/Virginia's story lined up in interesting ways.
It took me a long time to get this one from my library, so I just finished this a few days ago. Here's what I wrote on Goodreads: This is one of those books where you have to stop trying to figure out "who dunnit" and just be willing to go along for the ride. There were lots of twists and turns (probably too many and it was too drawn out) and some of them never really made sense in the end, but I still enjoyed the book and the story. The ending wasn't my favorite at the end of ALL the twists, but everything was wrapped up nicely, even if it wasn't terribly realistic.
Oh, so THAT'S why this was on my "to read" list. I read this about a month ago and enjoyed it. I'm not sure I entirely bought that she wouldn't have bailed out of that house of horrors earlier but the twisty ending made up for a lot.
Ha ha ha! That's so funny! I can laugh because I've done the same darn thing before. Hee hee! Yeah, not totally realistic at all for a lot of it, but like I said, you just have to agree to go with it and enjoy the story. Lol.
