I do agree that 99% of the time the book is better than the movie... however recently it seems like hollywood is realizing this is a problem, so they've started doing more limited series TV shows based on books and I will say that it helps so much to adapt a book that way because you can include so much more from the book into the show.

People will probably shoot me for saying this, but one instance where I like the movies better than the books is Harry Potter. I read the books way after they were first released and after all the movies were done. I read the books back to back one summer and I started to find them very repetitive. I think I would have enjoyed reading them better as they were released probably. Anyway, I just really like those movies and would far rather rewatch the movies than read the books again.

I read Ender's Game and I watched the movie too... definitely liked that book better! I remember thinking that if I hadn't read the book I wouldn't know what was going on in the movie...

I'm surprised to hear you like the Harry Potter movies better because my SIL was always so mad that every movie wasn't as good as the book haha

In my experience, the book is always better than the movie.
Do you agree or disagree? agree
What books turned movies come to mind for you? Well, the classic example of books that make terrible movies are Stephen King books. The movies are usually terrible and although there are a few exception like The Shining where it was a good movie, still not nearly as good as the book. Also the more recent It movies were pretty good. One of my favorite books was Jurassic Park and I was SOOOOOOOO disappointed in the movie when it came out. Over time, I've come to accept it for what it is and I enjoy watching it but I still think they could have done so much better. Others that come to mind have already been mentioned: Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Outlander. I've been watching the Wheel of Time series on Prime and that's not too bad. Growing up, my favorite book was Jane Eyre and there have been some pretty good movie versions of that (and the Collin Firth Pride and Prejudice of course!).
Have you watched any movies that were better than the books? The Meg! I reluctantly admit that I've read all the Meg books (I love monster books and movies) and the writer is kinda schlocky but I love them. Maybe I like the movies because I don't have that much invested in the books since I don't think they are great literature or anything. :D Also, I think the movie Jaws is better than the book. Maybe it's just huge shark movies . . .

Do you agree or disagree? Agree ... the book usually has much more detail
What books turned movies come to mind for you? As many have mentioned : Harry Potter, Outlander, Twilight, Virgin River
Have you watched any movies that were better than the books? Generally some things are changed from the book to fit in time constraints, so there are things I like better sometimes as it makes the scenes move along on screen at a faster paste than on the page.. One book/film I will always say was EXACT - film exactly like the movie is THe Bridges of Madison County.

I haven’t read or watched The Bridges of Madison County but I’m glad to know there do exist some films that match the books.

Movies and TV series, like The Shinning, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, lots from Nicholas Sparks, Harlan Coben, Tana French
Have you watched any movies that were better than the books?
The only movies that I think were as good as the books are Misery, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption and The Shining. Those are books by stephen Kingand the movies are masterpieces!!

I agree completely that the book is usually better than the movie.
My only disagreement is Auntie Mame. The movie was SOOOOOOOO much better than the book. I love the movie, so when I saw that it was based on a book, I read it. Disappointing!!!!

LOL about the Bella comment. Agree.....Agree

We think of them as 2 different things: Harry Potter movies and Harry Potter books. I miss all the ghosts and the little things that made the school magical that were left out of the movies. But I read the books pretty close to release dates, so that may have made a difference to me.

On that note though (the people will shoot me note), I think the Lord of the Rings movies were better than the book.:backing I just couldn't get through the books with the constant random songs and crazy descriptions. I enjoyed the movies though!

I usually say yes, the book was better than the movie. I enjoyed Ender's Game the movie, so maybe you will too!

The movie was better than the book:
How to Train Your Dragon. The book was hard to read because it was so scattered, and annoying. The movie was so much better!
I'm on the fence about The Devil Wears Prada. The book sometimes felt pandering, while the movie was more snappy and fun. I'm also on the fence about The Life of Pi. I think the movie visuals did the story more justice than the book overall.
I don't know that they really count, but Curious George and The Grinch who store Christmas. I think the movies are better, although Curious George pulls the characters, not necessarily the story. And The Grinch has numerous remakes.

I’m glad you think the Stephen King movies measure up. I don’t think I’ve read or watched any of them yet.

I’m curious if you liked the movie better because you watched it first; I bet it makes a difference.

Maybe. The book is nothing like the movie. Maybe I'll have to go back and re-read the book expecting it to be totally different.

I agree! The book is always better than the movie and the movie typically never lives up to my expectations. I have a crazy imagination, so I guess that doesn't help. LOL
