MONTHLY MUSE: THE SEA Hi everyone, Ona here to bring you this month's Monthly Muse! Hope you are all doing well! This month we are looking at an older Muse challenge that I hosted way back in June 2017, about THE SEA. So while we are using the same theme for the month, our weekly prompts will be different. The four weekly challenges will be posted on Monday, July 4, July 11, July 18 and July 25 with the challenge finishing up at midnight Aug1 EST time. I hope you will join me and the rest of the team throughout this month! For this month we are also looking at scrapping our layouts using the “Skinny” method of dividing our pages into 4 parts and just scrapping on one part of the layout for each week’s challenge. Check out the end of this post for info on how to download some templates to use if you wish to. If working in singular parts is not your thing, then by all means just scrap a full layout, totally up to you. What I like about scrapping parts is that I can change up little parts of the area of the previous parts to match my current one, and then on the final week I can add some extra embellishments over the top of all the parts if I want to. Okay, on with the challenge ……….. Week 1: THE SEA - Bottom Deep What do you think or feel when you are by the sea? For me it holds so much mystery and magic! I can identify with the sea in so many ways, it speaks to me on so many levels and can invoke a lot of different emotions and memories. While the roar of the surf and smell of the salt air certainly enthrals me, I am always very curious about what is happening at the bottom of all of that water. So for this week’s challenge it is all about what can be found deep in the waters, what feelings are conjured up when you think about it, what do you imagine it would look like. What does your mind imagine the scenery to look like? a peaceful and magical scene of lost cities or mythical sea creatures maybe sunken ships lost in time or perhaps a garden of pretty corals and swaying seagrass where various fish and mammals live and play or do you imagine there are monsters down in the deep that we are unaware of Challenge for Week 1: Use one part of your 4 divided parts of a layout to create some art that reflects what you think/feel or imagine what the bottom of the ocean would look like, feel like or would like to look like. (Or you can just go with one layout each week, up to you. ) Added twist: Add some bokeh/magic lights or a stamp/transfer. Inspiration Board: I found these images on Pinterest and have created an inspiration board that may be of help to get started, along with some quotes and a color palette, but you can use whatever quotes, wordart or colours that you like. Color palette: My page: I went with a fantasy theme, imagining that mermaids are there below the surface, down deep where the waters are calm and dark and provide some solitude and peace. I chose to work in triangles this month and for my first part to be the triangle at the bottom of the page. Credits can be found in the gallery. Template Information: In a previous Muse challenge a template was provided by our generous designer Liz, (aka Scrapping with Liz) and it is still available if you would like to download it. The Skinnies templates available HERE. I also created some templates over the weekend to use for myself and if you would like to download and use them then please do so. These templates have four different layout styles, ie. Page is divided into 4 vertical areas; 4 horizontal; 4 squares (quadrant) and 4 triangles. I have included a 12”x12”, US Letter and A4 format in either a PSD or TIF format so please download whichever (or all of them) one you like. Dropbox link is: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/nx2ya9qtf9uqjwrfbv7vs/h?rlkey=ucikrkh36foim4szirsizq0rg&dl=0 The idea is to open the template save it straight away with a new name and turn on the layer visibility for the 4 layers that you want. You can either just leave the other layers hidden or just delete them and save again. Challenge for Week 1 Use one part of your 4 divided parts of a layout to create some art that reflects what you think/feel or imagine what the bottom of the ocean would look like, feel like or would like to look like. (Or you can just go with one layout each week, up to you. ) Added twist: Add some bokeh/magic lights or a stamp/transfer. You can create any style of page ie. clean and simple, artsy, pocket style etc,. Your page can be all digital or hybrid. Wherever the inspiration takes you as long as you include TLP products on your page. Please post your layout to the Art Journaling Gallery HERE prior to Midnight EST August 1, 2023 and then post it in this thread by copying the code (at the right of your gallery image) from the box under "Share BB Code". We will draw a winner at the beginning of next month for a coupon!! Every layout you create is equal to one entry in the random draw. So if you create 1 layout you are entered once, if you create 4 layouts you are entered 4 times. You can use any products in the Lilypad store or retired products from current Lilypad designers, (just make sure you follow our gallery guidelines). Very excited to see what you talented gals come up with!
thank you for the muse. This month's BYOC is so full of sea themed kits! I chose Paula's Deep Sea collection
I created my own template. I am disappointed I was unable to use the background paper I planned as I purchased Octopus Garden by Rebecca McMeen to use for this but was only able to download two of the files as the others are too large for my internet to handle. But I still enjoyed creating what I have done.
This was lots of fun, thanks Ona! And thanks for the template... I can see I'm going to get lots of use out of it. The BYOC was perfect for this challenge! PS: I used some of NBK's magic lights in my Page
