I know we have quite a few tv/movie threads going on , but I have to ask.... What are you watching on TV or what movies have you watched lately that you really, really like. Watching TV and movies is a form of relaxation for me. My mind fixes on the show, and the real world falls away. Often, it's just the mental break I need. A nice pause. Really good shows can be inspirational too! But here lately, "new" series and shows are not doing it for me. The exception is Netflix's The Diplomat. I laughed out loud during quite a few of the episodes. But, I am not jiving with season two of Sweet Tooth. And although I love the costumes and strong character of Queen Charlotte, I realize it was the Lady Whistledown character of Bridgerton that was the hook for me for that show. I tried to watch YOU, but none of the characters resonate for me. I've peaked through HBO, Showtime, Paramount, and Prime...but there is not much that is catching my attention. I'll be combing through Dawn's thread of older shows to watch. And I've asked a similar question before. I know I should watch Better Call Saul (now is probably the time since new stuff is not resonating with me). But I am really, really curious...are there NEW shows or movies that you really, really like, right now right now. Ha! Really.
I binged the diplomat over just a couple of days. I loved it. I also liked Pine Gap. Both on Netflix. On AppleTV I thought Shrinking was fun. I also have liked Will Trent on ABC (should be on Hulu). I’ll be watching this thread for others.
I watched the first season of You and couldn't look away but I have not felt the desire to get pulled back into that world for subsequent seasons. "New" is kind of hard to define but Ted Lasso might be my favorite new show of the last few years and I really like Shrinking and Only Murders in the Building. I also started Abbott Elementary and am really enjoying that one. Oh and I got completely sucked in by Ginny and Georgia for a while. The Watcher is new and is totally addictive. I need to watch the new season of Outer Banks (kinda YA but still fun) and my daughter told me there's a new season of Queer Eye. So not sure which of those count as new to you but they are new-ish.
True...I'm including new seasons and new to TV shows...and perceiving the time frame as the last two months. I don't know why but I've struggled with most shows for the past two months. I've gone back to re-watching the Lord of the Rings movie series Something fresh and inspirational would be great.
My daughter and I are totally into Yellowjackets on Showtime. My husband and I are watching White House Plumbers on HBO.
7 episodes of "The last thing he told me." ( more like a long movie than a series , really good ) watched " Grace " and the new season of "The unforgotten " ( both British short series) I think there are 2 different series of the Diplomat ? I British 1 American , I am watching the British one If all else fails, there is always Father Brown LOL
I'd seen ads for The Diplomat but wasn't sure about it. Sounds like it's worth a look. I got an iTunes gift card for Mother's Day and it came with 2 free months of Apple TV, so I just caught up on Ted Lasso. Totally a fave. I also watched both seasons of Shmigadoon. I don't know if I'd say I loved it, but it was definitely different. LOL Also, we did a production of Brigadoon when I was in high school, so it has a special place in my heart. Netflix: I really enjoyed Queen Charlotte. It does have a much different feel that the other Bridgertons though. Another vote for Ginny & Georgia. The newest season of Queer Eye was wonderful as always. I don't watch usually watch much reality TV, but I've been on a bit of a kick lately and found both Indian Matchmaking and Jewish Matchmaking to be interesting and charming. Amazon Prime: The latest (final?) season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is in progress. ABC/Hulu: Not Dead Yet is fun. I love Gina Rodriguez, and this has a similar feel to Jane the Virgin for me. CBS/Paramount+: Ghosts is cute. Great ensemble cast. Also really enjoying So Help Me Todd.
I am no help! I am feeling the same way! Where are all the show? I think I might go back and watch Boston Legal (again!!)...LOL.
Other new (or fairly new) that I liked tiny beautiful things on Hulu - LOVED this one schitt's creek on Hulu (formerly on Netflix) candy on Hulu nine perfect strangers on Hulu the white lotus on HBO I actually like the 2nd season od Sweet Tooth, once it got going
Lisa, I like 9-1-1: Lone Star with Rob Lowe.. now in it's 4th season on FOX.. don't know if they have it to binge on it, but if they do you should check it out. I am also rewatching Outlander.. I like Queen Charlotte, but it is a bit different from Bridgerton. I like a lot of the British shows on Netflix and YouTube
Started binging on season 2 of Sweettooth on Netflix, 1 more episode left to watch. After that, I'm gonna start watching Queen Charlotte (a Bridgerton Story)
I don't watch broadcast t.v, don't have cable (and don't want it) and haven't been interested in movies much in years, but I watch YouTube everyday and follow some channels regularly. These are some of my favorites. https://www.youtube.com/@KaraandNate They're world travelers. https://www.youtube.com/@Jammidodger He's a trans man and scientist (just earned his PhD) who talks about LGBTQ issues in a sometimes funny way. https://www.youtube.com/@PlantChompers He reads a lot of books and scientific papers on health and nutrition and discusses them. Sometimes does interviews. He also happens to be one of the founders of Smugmug, one of the places where I've been protecting my photos and scrapbook pages since 2008. https://www.youtube.com/@Thoughty2 A great storyteller, his stories are sometimes unsolved mysteries, sometimes horrifying, sometimes just amazing historical incidents. https://www.youtube.com/@tylerandtodd I started watching them for their RV travels, and because they are a sweet couple who are a lot of fun to watch, but they don't travel much since the pandemic. Now they are building a cabin in the woods in Nova Scotia. https://www.youtube.com/@RainbowPlantLife One of the two best vegan cooking channels I've ever watched; I've made many of her recipes now. (I just finished eating some of her Spicy Garlic Tofu, in fact.) https://www.youtube.com/@kurzgesagt One the all around best science channels, very well researched, awesome productions. They post infrequently because they make such awesome shows and whenever they appear in my feed, they're the first I choose to watch. https://www.youtube.com/@PickUpLimes My other favorite vegan cooking channel. https://www.youtube.com/@ed.winters A wonderfully compassionate vegan advocate. I'm vegan first for my health, second for the environment, but only just started learning about the ethics of it in the last couple of years, and Ed has been one of my strongest influences there. https://www.youtube.com/@NotJustBikes A man who grew up in Canada, traveled a bit and then settled in the Netherlands because they are one of the best places for pedestrians and bicyclists instead of having the car focus we have in North America. https://www.youtube.com/@kingingit My current TOP favorite travel vloggers. Even their sponsor ads are hilariously fun to watch.
