In general, do you prefer going to the movies at the theater? Or watching a movie at home? Does it depend on the movie?

We are planning on seeing Ghostbusters on the big screen, and my mother in law is going to see It's A Wonderful Life on the big screen next month. I know that there are some movies that I enjoyed a lot at the theaters, and others that I'm content to wait until I can watch them at home snuggled on my couch.

What about you? Do you prefer the Big Movie Theater screens? Or would you rather watch at home?
Have you ever rented a movie theater out for just you and family/friends?

Of course, there's always the question: Are you not a movie person at all?

Last time I saw a movie in a theater was 1991 so 30 years ago. (Backdraft was the movie and I saw it twice in 2 weeks).

Even before that I didn't go to the theater regularly. In my 20's it was usually on a date. After that it was not something I would do very often. Not many movies interested me enough to spend the money. I would wait until they came on TV and watch them then and if I didn't like it, I could turn it off and not feel like money was wasted.

These days hearing issues keep me away from a theater. I no longer enjoy being in large crowds (even before the pandemic) so I know I absolutely would not enjoy seeing a movie in a theater.

I guess you could say that I'm not a big movie person. I haven't seen one advertised in a long time that had me interested in seeing it. However, give me a movie from the 50's/60's/70's and I'll enjoy the heck out of them. Even ones I've seen before!

I like going to the movies.. we have a place we prefer called "Cinema Cafe" here so we go to the movies and have lunch at the same time.. generally Friday's at 10:30-11am movie playing there is hardly anyone there.

I wanted to see Belfast last week but it was not playing at Cinema Cafe..

I am looking forward to the Lucy/Desi movie and hope that comes out there as well as Julia (re documentary on Julia Child) and of course Downton Abbey - A New Era that will be in theatres in March... These days I do not want to sit in a theatre with seats right next to each other and close rows. At Cinema Cafe everyone is spaced out :)

Eventually we will get back to watching at the cafe but if it is on PPview and I cannot wait we will do that or HBO Max release we will do that too.

How wonderful Courtney that you MIL is going to the movie theatre to see "It's a Wonderful Life" on the big screen.. that is my favorite movie :)

We don't go often b/c we have a comfortable setup at home with a big 4k tv and surround sound but sometimes a movie just needs to be seen on the big screen. We haven't been since COVID but normally we would go at least once every 3 months or so.

I saw "It's a Wonderful Life" on the big screen at the Smithsonian in late 2019 with a friend. I've always loved that movie but had only seen it on tv before.

One of the theaters in my area shows "old" movies and pre-COVID a group of us would go together. Of course, I can't remember off-hand which movies we saw other than Gone with the Wind and True Grit ...

I'm not a huge movie fan, but I do enjoy going to the movies now and again.

Like you, hearing issues have kept me away from the theater. The amplification devices that you can borrow at the theater, just blast the loud background noise covering up the speech. It makes for a frustrating experience. We used to go to lots of movies but it has been years since we saw one. Of course, Covid hasn’t helped.

I like going to theaters, but have pulled away in the last 5 years. I think it's a combination of availability on TV, Covid, teens, and what my friends and I want to do when we go out (not usually a movie).

Last movie I saw was actually recently - I saw the new 007 with my parents. We won't talk about the actual movie. lol! Before that... probably a Marvel movie? I'm unsure... it's been so long.

I won't go to a theater to watch a movie. I wait for it to come on TV if I want to watch something.

Honestly, I can't remember what I saw at the theater the last time I was there. Maybe Wonder Woman?

I actually prefer to be at home to watch movies. I did go see Gone With The Wind in theater when it had its 75th anniversary, and that was fun.

We like movies at the theater- getting out and enjoying something we grew up doing. However, so much of them are violent, dark, has magick, sci fi, or just not what we would see. I miss the more conservative days when that was not the majority of what was available. Think we will go see A Journal for Jordan though!! :)
We do pay to watch at home sometimes too.

I love going to the movies at the theater, but don't very often because it's just too expensive. It has to be something that I really want to see, otherwise I just wait to watch it streaming. I have a really hard time sitting to watch a movie at home. I have to be doing something else. At the theater, I have to sit and watch lol.

When I was single I used to go to the movie theater once per week, more like a routine, lol, but at nowadays I prefer watch TV, and my favorite movies are Hallmark movies (I know, they are almost all the same story, just with different names, lol, but I really like them, especially during Christmas).

We loved going to the movies! There was a time we went every week on tuesdays because movies were half off at AMC and they had a popcorn and pop for $5. I love movie popcorn. We would go to prerelease movies too which was fun because you would also get free concessions. I can’t say I remember what movie we saw last but it was prepandemic and basically we now have no desire to go to the movies. Maybe one day. We do have a server that has about 1000 movies on it and a big screen tv so it’s kind of the same but with cats, so that makes it better right? But no theater popcorn…

I have a non-married child-free friend who is my "go-to" movie friend (at least pre-COVID) and, at one point, we were going to see a movie together once every other month. We have not since COVID started but now that we're both vaccinated (and she's been boosted since she's a teacher), we could probably start again. We both have long-distance boyfriends so that makes scheduling a date a little more complicated.

I love going to the movies & "require" getting popcorn to eat while watching said movie. The bougie local theater with the recliner seats is my favorite place to watch a movie but I go to other theaters, too.

My oldest & I went to see "Cruella" and "In the Heights" over the summer, and we'll be going to see "West Side Story" next month. I've never been to a movie on Thanksgiving or over the holiday weekend but we might go next Thursday or Friday since we don't do Black Friday shopping and we're off work/school. "Encanto" is out next week, and we love us some Lin-Manuel.

I'd rather stay at home in my comfy pajamas and on my comfy couch with a bowl of ice cream (rather than popcorn).

You must have really liked it!

Have you seen some of the old movies that they show at the theatres now? I think it's awesome!

We used to have one of those! I think it's such a neat idea to have dinner and a movie at the same time!

    I'm excited for her!

I agree with that! I like being at home, but some movies just need the big screen!

    That's so cool!

    Oh that would be annoying!

    Did you like the movie?

I hated going in Vegas! It seemed all the good ones were at the casinos.

I've been watching older movies, and I'm slightly shocked with how much innuendos there are in them!

We found a great local theater! $5/movie and they are new releases! It's run by a non-profit in town, so it feels good to support them too with concessions!

Sometimes it's nice to have the predictability. Hallmark movies make me laugh sometimes!

Anything with cats is better! But, you need to find good popcorn! We love our popcorn maker.

Oh! I need to add that to my to see list!

There is a lot to be said about that!
