My orchids buds are falling all dried up without opening! I have never had this happened before! I am guessing they are not receiving enough water. I am putting my ice cubes on the roots! HELP!
Be generous @Dalis give them tap temperature water. They're tropical plants so ice makes them shiver!
Here is how I have been watering mine. Two of them are in pots that have a separate outside pot. I fill up the pot with warm/room temp water and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then I remove the inner pot and let it drain for 15 minutes or so. I dump all the water from the outer pot and then pop the inner one back in. That way all the roots get water but they do not sit in water. One of mine is in an orchid pot and I started watering it the same way. The orchid pot has holes all over it; got it at Home Depot.
@Dalis - Inner pots draining. Big one has a wooden spoon stuck in there so it doesn't fall back into the pot. The one on the left is about 5+ years old? One on the right is maybe 2 or 3? Right is white with mauve centers. Close-up of orchid pot. It took the plant about 6 months or more to recover from being moved, but I think it likes it now. The roots need air and they can not sit in water. Lots of You Tube videos on growing them.
@Dalis I will admit all my orchid experience is from my life in Bangkok where they all hung out on tree branches, happy in the hot steamy weather. I wilted, they flourished. Another indoor issue is dry dry air though. My friend has an orchid room and she does keep it moisturized all the time.
the same in Puerto rico, so here I have always been ok with them. but this year I am losing all the buds before they open!!!!
My orchid is blooming; I water once a week (just regular tap water). Mine sit in a window facing the south and gets afternoon sunlight
I know this is the first time this ever happens! At least the flowers that are left have opened up and they look good. I need to snap a pic to post.
